At Kinsale Insurance our Data Analysts provide support for business-critical initiatives and collaborate with IT Teams and business partners to solve enterprise problems like reporting, analytics, and building data-driven applications to help innovate with features/capabilities that are highly efficient. Join our collaborative team onsite as a Data Analyst in our fabulous building in Richmond, VA where you can work with technology and the business.

Responsibilities

Develop and design reports/extracts based on requirements in support of key business strategies.Collect, analyze, and convert complex data and comprehensive information into reports/extracts.Test new or changes to existing reports/extracts using independent test for completeness and accuracy; document the test plan and results.Leverage data visualization skills to display data in an intuitive, user-friendly, and actionable format.When feasible, automate existing reports, data calls, etc. and create self-serve reporting solutions.Monitor usage of existing reports to ensure reports are current or identify potential changesTrain team members and/or other internal users on BI Tool and dashboards.Review and evaluate changes and updates to source production systems for reporting needs.Perform data extraction, transformation, analysis, and interpretation of findings/results to inquiries for various departments and required data calls.Participate in developing best practices for report naming conventions, numbering, and coding/formatting practices to ensure consistency of reporting framework.Work with various teams to develop and/or maintain data flows and conceptual data models.Participate in database changes necessary for data conversion, data refresh or migration, or other initiatives related to application development project or other data needs.Work with a variety of groups, such as users, Data Engineers, and Development teams, to analyze, diagnose, isolate, and expediently resolve root-cause of issues pertaining to data utilizing a variety of languages and tools.Develop and/or maintain data flows/conceptual models; working closely with business and other analytical staff to define new project requirements, including data requirements, data definitions and data standards.Perform and support IT Operations tasks, such as daily/monthly cycle, and running applicable reports.Present clear findings; translate and communicate accurate information to technical and non-technical stakeholders.Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, technology, or related field preferred2+ years of experience work experience as a data analyst or in related field1+ years of experience with public cloud database architectures, preferred2+ years of experience with SQL databases, ETL, and writing complex SQL statementsExperience with report writing/BI tools, like Tableau or QlikStrong hands-on scripting ability (SQL required, Python a plus); familiarity with formatting such as JSON, XML; proficient use of CLI/code editor toolsExperience with non-relational databases, such as DynamoDB, MongoDB, and/or Cassandra is a plusStrong Excel skills, macro capabilities a plusExperience with batch processing, command-line processingExperience with SDLC, source code repositories, and CI/CD processExperience working in an agile development environment with effective collaboration, knowledge sharing, and cross-training skillsKnowledge of semantic layers and models in support of business intelligence and data analytics (BI and data warehouse support)Understanding of financial controls (i.e., SOX) as they relate to data, database security, and change managementKnowledge of Property & Casualty Insurance lines a plus, but not requiredData stewardship, stakeholder engagement and management by applying excellent oral communications, solid presentation, interpersonal and problem-solving skillsAbility to process and manage multiple competing priorities and initiatives, producing deliverables in a timely mannerAt Kinsale we offer the following great benefits:
