Job Details

As an Engineering Manager overseeing I&E Technicians, you would be responsible for managing, mentoring, and supporting a team that focuses on electrical and instrumentation tasks. Your role would be to ensure that the team effectively troubleshoots, installs, and maintains electrical systems, ensuring safety and efficiency. You would also manage workflow, assign tasks, and ensure that projects stay on track and within budget.

Duties of an Engineering Manager overseeing I&E Technicians:

  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Provide guidance, technical support, and mentorship to a team of I&E Technicians, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Project Coordination: Manage the allocation of resources, set project timelines, and ensure the successful completion of tasks such as troubleshooting 480v power distribution systems, 24vdc control systems, PLCs, and VFDs.
  • Technical Oversight: Review and approve electrical system modifications, including wiring for 3-phase motors, programming of VFDs, and adherence to NEC code standards.
  • Training & Development: Provide ongoing training for technicians to enhance their knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation, and NEC code compliance. Support the team in obtaining relevant certifications such as a Journeyman electrical license.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure that all team members follow safety protocols when working with high voltage equipment and electrical control systems, and conduct regular safety briefings and inspections.
  • Collaboration with Other Departments: Work closely with other departments, such as operations and procurement, to ensure proper coordination of materials, tools, and schedules for fieldwork and installations.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee the inspection, testing, and performance of electrical equipment, ensuring that the team performs insulation tests on motors and terminates wires according to the highest standards.
  • Problem Solving & Troubleshooting: Provide higher-level support when troubleshooting complex electrical systems, collaborating with the team to diagnose malfunctions and propose effective solutions.
  • Travel & Scheduling: Manage the team's travel schedule for onsite projects, ensuring that the 50-hour workweek requirement is maintained while balancing workload distribution across projects.
  • Tool & Equipment Management: Ensure that the team has access to the appropriate tools for the job, and manage inventory to prevent delays in project execution.

By managing the I&E team, you would ensure that electrical systems are maintained, repaired, and improved efficiently while keeping a focus on safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
