Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position. Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs in order to provide quality care to assigned patients. Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic problem list (plan of care) for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/family/significant other in order to address all identified needs. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient. Evaluates the identified problems, care provided and patient's responses are reassessed in order to meet patient and family needs to assure overall quality of care delivered. Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the health care team, in order to ensure quality care. Functions as a role model for current and new staff. Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Emergency Department as defined in the scope of service, to assure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed. This includes, but is not limited to the age of the patient served. As necessary, performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Emergency Department as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards. Follows the hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intradepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives. Assumes responsibility for daily personnel assignment/monitoring patient care and overall unit activities in accordance with established standards. Attends annual skills presentations and other mandatory meetings/inservices (fire, infection control). Attends regularly scheduled unit meetings. Attends a minimum of 75% of unit meetings. Attendance allows for clarification and discussion of items pertinent to the Hospital and unit. The associate is 100% responsible for the meeting minutes/contents and must sign that they have read the meeting minutes and had the opportunity to ask questions of their manager. The associate will be held accountable for and discussed changes in policy and procedure whether unit specific or Hospital wide. Work assignments will be assigned by leadership based on organizational and/or department needs Actively participates in Quality activities, Nursing Committees/Councils, and other applicable activities related to the care plan of the patient within and beyond the hospital care provided Job Requirements General Requirements •Current MI License to practice as a Registered Nurse Work Experience •None •Preferred - Experience with an EMR, specifically EPIC •Preferred - Experience in an ambulatory setting. •Preferred - Emergency Department, Emergency Services, or Critical Care experience Education •Graduate of a nationally accredited registered nursing program •Bachelors, Masters or PhD Degree in Nursing preferred •Attends continuing education programs in order to maintain licensure Specialized Knowledge and Skills •Clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to formulate effective nursing care plans •Demonstrates ability to function in a team environment, including excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, their families, providers and co-workers •Provides care for patients which is age-specific to meet their physical and safety needs, psychosocial concerns, and educational level •Ability to work in an EMR environment •Requires visual and auditory acuity necessary to monitor patients condition and operate office equipment University of Michigan Health-Sparrow is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
