Under direction, to supervise the personnel and operations of a Pharmacy Division.The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.Supervises the day-to-day workflows to ensure services are delivered to the highest standard, meeting compliance, quality, safety, and financial requirements;Establishes work schedule and assigns pharmacy staff;Incorporates technology into daily operations;Manages resources to meet operational needs within budget;Implements strategic plans within the division;Ensures implementation and enforcement of applicable laws and regulations and compliance with applicable policies and procedures of the County, State, Federal, and other regulatory health agencies;Ensures adequate supply and effective utilization of pharmaceutical inventory and required recordkeeping;Operationalizes the formulary system compliance within their division;Provides personnel management activities, e.g., recruitment, selection, orientation of new staff, competency validation, training, evaluation, and progressive discipline, as appropriate;Implements and evaluates quality assurance and performance improvement;Implements training, research, and education programs to staff and future pharmacy professionals;Mentors and trains pharmacy students, residents, and staff;Participates in emergency preparedness, including being on-call;May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW), as required;Performs other related work or assignments, as required.Sufficient education, training, and experience to demonstrate the ability to perform the above tasks, plus the possession and direct application of the following knowledge and abilities:Training and Experience Note:

The required knowledge and abilities are attained through possession of licensure as described in the Special Requirements; and three (3) years of full-time hospital pharmacy experience OR five (5) years of full-time outpatient, retail, and/or long-term care pharmacy experience.Special RequirementsPossess and maintain, for the duration of employment in this classification, a valid license to practice as a Pharmacist in the State of California.*As a condition of employment, pursuant to California Government Code Sections 3100-3109 and Local Ordinance, all County of Santa Clara employees are designated Disaster Service Workers (DSWs), including extra help. A DSW is required to complete all assigned DSW-related training, and in the event of an emergency, return to work as ordered.Knowledge of:The standards in pharmacy practice, laws, and regulations governing inpatient, ambulatory, or subacute pharmacy services;Principles of quality and process improvement;Principles and practices of budgetary preparation and fundamentals of data analysis;Principles of supervision, training, organization, and personnel management, productivity, and labor relations;English usage, style, grammar, punctuation, and spelling;Common computer systems and applications.Ability to:Implement the values, mission, and goals of the pharmacy enterprise in a health system;Organize, evaluate, and direct the work of pharmacy professional and support pharmacy;Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within and outside the organization;Prepare clear and comprehensive correspondence and reports;Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures;Lead change management by using a systematic approach to dealing with the transition or transformation of an organization’s goals, processes, or technologies;Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, at all levels, including colleagues, the public, and representatives of other agencies.Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
