Description
The Iowa State University Library seeks an engaging leader to serve as Head of Preservation. The Head of Preservation provides vision and leadership for a well-established preservation program and guides our dedicated team to ensure the longevity and long-term accessibility of our treasured collections across formats, facilities, and functional areas, all in service to ISU’s land-grant mission.The Head of Preservation shapes initiatives that safeguard our materials, ignite a passion for their use, and play a vital role in setting overall preservation policy and priorities for the library. This position will coordinate and engage in collections care, conservation of Special Collections and University Archives materials, digitization and reformatting, digital preservation, education and outreach, environmental monitoring, and emergency preparedness and disaster planning.The Head of Preservation has the privilege of managing 7500 total square feet of reformatting and conservation lab space. Additionally, they will support and manage the Lennox Foundation endowment used to support internships for new professionals.This position participates in big-picture thinking, builds consensus around a strategic vision, and fosters innovation. As a leader, the Head of Preservation drives forward the mission of the Academic Services division, cultivates high-trust teams, and maintains an environment where every student, faculty, and staff member can thrive. The Head of Preservation assesses and evaluates the Department's programs, services, policies, and processes and works collaboratively with other Library units and administration to meet the library's goals. This position also partakes in and supports grant work, development efforts, and public engagement. As part of the position's Library service, the Head of Preservation participates in the divisional management team, Library-wide planning and discussions, and may serve on Library and University committees to shape the future of our library and university.
