Consulting Director, Mining & Energy (Director Level)ERM is seeking a
Consulting Director , overseeing permitting for
mining clients throughout North America, with a particular focus on the Western US . This role will lead permitting and further team development for mining and may support energy facilities and other major capital development projects. The ideal candidate will have experience permitting exploration, greenfields, and expansion projects in the mining sector along with technical expertise leading or supporting environmental, local, and state-level reviews for large-scale capital projects.
It is preferred and desired that the candidate has experience developing permits and permitting strategies for mining and energy projects, including federal plans of operations and development as well as state and local permits. Experience with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analyses is also desired. As part of ERM’s Capital Projects Delivery team, you will be leading consulting on a range of environmental, social, and health impact assessment projects to build a sustainable business both regionally and nationally, while networking with ERM's global technical teams to share best practices across the industry.
This position will focus primarily on federal, state, and local permitting of exploration and mine projects to facilitate development, construction, operation, and reclamation/closure of mining and energy projects. Our portfolio of projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse with clients developing facilities domestically and internationally.
The position will require a candidate to work both independently and with teams of subject matter experts, so the successful candidate must have the ability to manage varying priorities and multiple tasks while forging a cohesive delivery team to meet concurrent deadlines on multiple projects. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, environmental management, wetland science, planning, engineering, geology, or related natural resources science field of study.
8+ years of project management, licensing and permitting experience, including strong project experience in mining and energy across the U.S.
Experience with federal, state, and local permitting, in particular with the preparation of applications and documents related to the development of exploration and mining projects on federal lands.
Experience assisting clients in obtaining multi-media permits and approvals for new or expanded facilities.
Experience overseeing and coordinating desktop and online studies or research on natural resource or resource planning topics, Geographic Information System, map interpretation (National Wetland Inventory, U.S. Geological Survey, aerial photography).
Demonstrated ability to research and prepare concise and accurate technical documents including presentation of findings to clients, stakeholders, and/or regulatory agencies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports.
Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop team members – excellent people skills, responsive, collaborative, versatile, effective in a fast-paced environment, and service-oriented.
Valid driver’s license and good driving record with the ability to travel to project locations as needed (10%).
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in environmental studies, environmental management, wetland science, planning, engineering, geology, or related natural resources science field of study.
12+ years of project management, licensing and permitting experience, including strong project experience in mining and energy across the U.S.
For the
Consulting Director, Mining & Energy
position, we anticipate the annual base pay of
$138,383 – $171,572 USD . An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. This job is also eligible for an annual discretionary based performance bonus.
