Deputy District Attorney I-IV - Consumer and Environmental Crimes Unit

The District Attorney of Solano County invites you to apply for the position of Deputy District Attorney I-IV. Deputy District Attorneys practice criminal and civil law in the prosecution of individuals accused of violating state and/or local laws.

The Ideal Candidate

Experience in both criminal prosecution and civil litigation acquired in a District Attorney's Office or other State or Federal prosecutor's office and/or private law firm.

Adaptability and willingness to learn new areas of the law.

Experience handling and presenting complex legal matters effectively in court.

The ability to independently manage caseload and work cooperatively with other attorneys and staff.

Effective negotiation and communication skills.

Strong organizational skills.

Strong legal research and writing skills and oral advocacy.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

EXPERIENCE

Deputy District Attorney I ($7,926.70-9,634.95/month) : no experience is required; however, applicants must demonstrate possession of and competency in requisite knowledge and abilities.

Deputy District Attorney II ($10,728.33 - $13,040.43/month) : a minimum of six months of criminal prosecution and trial experience as a Deputy District Attorney I or its equivalent, which demonstrates possession of and competency in requisite knowledge and abilities. Three years of experience in the general practice of law may be substituted for the six months of criminal law experience.

Deputy District Attorney III ($12,337.65- $14,996.56/month) : a minimum of one year of criminal prosecution and trial experience as a Deputy District Attorney II or its equivalent (a total of 1.5 years of criminal prosecution and trial experience as a Deputy District Attorney), which demonstrates possession of and competency in requisite knowledge and abilities. Four years of experience in the general practice of law may be substituted for the two years of criminal law experience.

Deputy District Attorney IV ($14,191.11 - $17,249.38/month) : a minimum of one year of criminal prosecution and trial experience as a Deputy District Attorney III or its equivalent (a total of 2.5 years of criminal prosecution and trial experience as a Deputy District Attorney), which demonstrates possession of and competency in requisite knowledge and abilities. Five years of experience in the general practice of law may be substituted for the three years of criminal law experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All levels of Deputy District Attorney: Active membership in the California State Bar Association is required.

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver's license may be required.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applications will be reviewed every two (2) weeks. Based on the information provided in the application documents, qualified applicants will be invited for further examination. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Depending upon the number of applications received, the selection process may consist of an initial application screening, a mandatory information meeting, a written and/or practical exam, an oral board exam, or any combination listed.

DOCUMENT SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS

There is no required document submittal for this recruitment; however, all applicants are required to enter their active California State Bar Number on their submitted employment application.

If applicants do not yet have their California State Bar number, they are required to submit documentation from the California State Bar Association verifying their number is pending. An active California State Bar number will be required prior to appointment.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS

To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A COPY OF THE DD 214, SHOWING DISCHARGE TYPE (GENERALLY COPY 4), MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT BY THE FINAL FILING DATE.

Veteran applicants for initial County employment with an honorable or general discharge shall receive five (5) points added to their combined score. Disabled veterans rated at not less than 30% disability shall have ten (10) points added to their combined score. Veteran’s preference points will only be added to passing scores in competitive open examinations.
