UCSF is a national leader in newborn care. Our children's hospital in San Francisco has a

neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)

devoted to providing the most advanced care available to critically ill infants. As a certified level IV regional NICU, we are capable of providing all levels of newborn care, from basic to most intensive, and draw patients from across the region. Our San Francisco location, the William H. Tooley Intensive Care Nursery, was among the first NICUs in the world.

Department DescriptionUCSF Benioff Children's Hospital is recognized throughout the world as a leader in health care, known for innovation, technology and compassionate care. Our 180-bed UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital has more than 150 specialists in more than 40 areas of medicine.

Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) was founded in 1964 and pioneered fetal surgery and is a 58-bed unit that provides care for critically ill newborns and has the expertise to treat the smallest, sickest and most fragile babies needing surgery for heart, lung, gastrointestinal and other life-threatening conditions. Our neonatal heart program is one of the largest in the country, treating almost 200 newborns with heart disease each year. The ICN is a Regional Intensive Care Nursery and works with a network of 24 hospitals in Northern California to provide neonatology care.

Required QualificationsNP 1

Master's Degree in Nursing with a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner specialization.

Minimum two years recent working experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as a Registered Nurse.

NP 2

Master's Degree in Nursing with a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner specialization.

Minimum one year recent working experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or recent completion of a Neonatal ICU Fellowship.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum three (3) years NNP work experience in a Level III or Level IV Neonatal ICU.

License/Certification

California driver's license (CDL) if required for position.

Must hold current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.

Must hold a current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.

Must have completed a BRN recognized graduate master's degree program as a nurse practitioner.

Must obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice.

Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.

Must hold current AHA BLS as minimum requirement.

Must hold current AHA NRP as minimum requirement.

State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice.

Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1.

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
