The Head of Tax, who reports to the VP Controller, is responsible for all aspects of the Company’s domestic and international tax compliance, reporting and planning and will manage a team of two. This position offers a great work-life balance, stability ($500M in cash) and an opportunity to have a seat at the table and impact business operations. This position, which is based in DC, requires a willingness to relocate.RESPONSIBILITIES:The Head of tax is responsible for all aspects of the Company’s domestic and international tax compliance, tax planning and accounting for income taxes, maintaining and developing policies and procedures for domestic and international tax as well as ongoing compliance with and monitoring of tax regulations. The successful candidate will work with financial management, third party service providers, and other tax professionals to carry out his or her responsibilities.Partner in the overall management and preparation of the quarterly and annual tax provision prepared by third party service providers in accordance with ASC 740, including related financial reporting matters.Prepare the reconciliation of tax general ledger accounts.Prepare the company’s tax disclosures within the Form 10Q and 10K filings.Partner in the overall management and preparation of the US Federal, state and foreign income tax and non-income tax/informational returns prepared by third party service providers.Maintain the worldwide tax compliance calendar by working with third party service providers.Calculate and prepare quarterly federal and state estimated tax payments.Coordinate annual R&D/Orphan Drug Credit calculations.Perform research and document and present findings on issues affecting the Company’s worldwide tax structure.Calculate annual reviews of ownership changes for the potential impact on NOL and credit utilization under IRC section 382.Ongoing assistance of the Company’s tax posture including fiscal entity structure, forward looking projections, transfer pricing and intercompany arrangements.Ongoing review of and maintenance of tax policies and controls in accordance with SOX 404.Work closely with various groups within the organization including finance and legal in order to facilitate information gathering as well as further understanding of the company’s activities.Maintain business registrations and licenses.Oversee non-income based taxes (i.e. sales and use tax, property tax, etc.).Initiate, lead and implement tax planning projects.QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum 10 years of corporate tax or public accounting experience is preferred with a Big 4 firm.CPA required and Masters in Taxation is strongly preferred.BA/BS business/accounting/finance or other applicable business discipline.Extraordinary level of issue/opportunity recognition skills which will directly and materially impact the long term corporate strategic direction and growth of the company.Ability to stay knowledgeable about, research and reach well-reasoned conclusions on laws and regulations relevant to tax.Ability to provide education and training to senior management on important issues.Demonstrated project and program management skills. Experience working in a cross-functional, multi-organizational project or initiative.Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work well in dynamic environment while consistently exercising good judgment.Ability to manage multiple complex projects independently with minimal supervision.Must possess critical attention to detail.Must have sound interpersonal, communication, organizational and analytical skills.SEC tax reporting, ASC 740, ASC 718 and international tax experience is strongly preferred.Global, commercial biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry experience is strongly preferred.
