Description
This is skilled water safety work, involving the prevention of accidents and injuries, and responding with effective care and treatment to emergency situations at aquatic pool areas. Provides supervision of lifeguards and facility when supervisor is off site. Reports to the Facilities Supervisor and/or Aquatic Manager. This position is expected to be filled for a period of three months.
Essential Job Duties
Performs all duties as a lifeguardResponsible for the safety of the facility patronsResponsible for the supervision of the lifeguard staffEnforces all rules, policies, and regulationsResponds to patron inquiries and concernsInspects the facility and reports any unsafe conditions or equipment to the Facility SupervisorMaintains records and reports, including incident reportsHelps to plan and provide in-service training for lifeguard staffMaintains records and documents of water quality and chemical balance, and adds chemicals to water as necessaryAssists with and supervises special events, swim meets, and other eventsCarries out additional duties as assigned by the Facility Supervisor and/or Aquatic ManagerPerforms other duties as assignedAbility to work weekends, holidays, early morning hours, and eveningsTypical Requirements
Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or GED supplemented by a minimum of (2) two years of experience as a Red Cross- certified lifeguard. At least (1) one year of head lifeguard or supervisory experience is preferred.
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and American Red Cross lifeguard instructor certifications are preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:
American Red Cross lifeguard certificationAmerican Red Cross first aid certificationAmerican Red Cross CPR, AED, & O2Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) RequiredEmergency Medical Technician (EMT) preferredValid Driver's License
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of water rescue methods, CPR, and first aid techniques.
Knowledge of park rules and regulations concerning public safety.
Ability to effectively supervise employees.
Ability to handle frightened or injured persons in the water.
Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly but tactfully.
Ability to remain alert for long periods of time.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, and the general public.
Ability to communicate effectively; verbal and written.
Ability to operate a personal computer.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
Employee will perform job duties primarily outdoors, at an outdoor pool environment including outdoor environmental weather conditions that may consist of heat, cold, wind, and rain. Employee may be exposed to noise, fumes, and odors. Frequent work with wet surfaces.
