POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinical Oncology Dietitian will play a crucial role in providing specialized nutritional care to oncology patients. This role involves developing and implementing personalized nutrition plans to support the management of cancer and its treatments, improving patients' quality of life, and enhancing overall health outcomes.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES

  1. Anticipates potential complications to nutrition interventions considering potential pharmacotherapy, nutrition and medication delivery systems and develops plans to address them.
  2. Apply nutrition screenings for cancer patients undergoing active treatment.
  3. Collaborate with other health care professionals as appropriate and develop nutrition education and resource materials as needed.
  4. Conduct counseling and / or education sessions utilizing appropriate interpersonal and communication skills. Advise patients on educational programs and community resources.
  5. Work in partnership with health-care teams and community resources to provide continuity of nutrition services for clients and their families across the cancer continuum.
  6. Establish priorities for nutrition-care delivery based on urgency and complexity of nutrition interventions. Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate the nutrition services provided to cancer patients.
  7. Maintain and in-depth body of knowledge of food and human nutrition unique to cancer and its treatment, and integrate this knowledge with that from other disciplines, including health and social sciences, education, communication, and management.
  8. Provide individualized nutrition assessments and nutrition recommendations based on patients’ specific therapies and nutritional needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: B.S. Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Work Experience: 1-3 years in Oncology Nutrition.
  • Licensure: Licensed Dietician/ Nutritionist (LDN) by the state of Florida.
  • Certification: N/A
  • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: o Must be able to evaluate body composition and conduct a nutrition focused physical assessment using available diagnostic tools and interpret information. o Solid knowledge of clinical nutrition with emphasis on nutrition needs of cancer patients. o Strong interpersonal skills to establish productive working relationships with multidisciplinary teams.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: M.S. Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Work Experience: 5 and above years of Oncology Nutrition
  • Licensure: Licensed Dietician/ Nutritionist (LDN) by the state of Florida.
  • Certification: o Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO) o Or Clinical Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC). o Registered Dietician (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Skilled in the complexities of nutritional care as it pertains to head / neck cancers, radiation and peg tubes.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Sedentary

  • Majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, stooping.
  • Long periods of computer time or at workstation.
  • Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without assistance.
  • May be exposed to inside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to moderate noise.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
  • Workspace may vary from open to confined, on site or remote.
  • May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
