JHU Whiting School of Engineering Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking a

Research Technologist

to participate in a project to develop a microfluidic platform to detect rare DNA biomarkers from non-invasive samples such as blood or urine. The Research Technologist will assist with engineering of the droplet microfluidic devices and instrumentation for analysis, focusing on development of a robust and user-friendly platform for manipulation and analysis of microfluidic droplets. The position is highly interdisciplinary, involving microfabrication, imaging, and programming.

Specific Duties & ResponsibilitiesCAD design of new devices and instrumentation.Experimentation of different fabrication methods and materials for the devices.Performing PCR assays on the droplet platform.

Additional knowledge, skills, and abilitiesMicrofabrication.Fluorescence imaging.Image analysis.Programming (ImageJ, Arduino, Matlab).DNA assays (eg. PCR).

Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.

Preferred QualificationsSome related post-undergraduate work experience.
