Gas Chromatography (GC) ,

Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) , and

High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) -key techniques in analyzing environmental samples such as water, soil, and air for pollutants and contaminants.

Key Responsibilities:

Sample Analysis : Conduct testing on environmental samples (water, soil, air) using techniques like

GC ,

GC-MS ,

HPLC , and other specialized methods such as:

BNA (Base Neutral Acid Extraction) : Used to extract organic compounds from environmental samples for further analysis.

DRO (Diesel Range Organics) : A technique for measuring petroleum hydrocarbons in the diesel range in environmental samples.

CPEST (Chlorinated Pesticides)

and

OPEST (Organophosphorus Pesticides) : Methods used for the detection of pesticides in environmental samples.

TVAP (Total Volatile Aromatic Hydrocarbons) : Used to measure volatile organic compounds in various environmental samples.

Low-Level Samples : Analyzing samples for contaminants at very low concentrations, requiring precision and sensitivity in testing.

Data Interpretation : Analyze chromatograms, spectra, and other outputs to determine contaminant concentrations and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Lab Testing : Perform routine tests using standard lab equipment, including pH meters, UV/Visible spectrophotometers, balances, and Total Organic Carbon analyzers.

Equipment Maintenance : Ensure instruments are functioning properly, troubleshoot issues, and assist with equipment repairs.

Record Keeping : Maintain accurate and complete records of testing activities and enter data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Method Development : Work with management to develop or refine analytical methods for detecting environmental pollutants.

Education & Qualifications:

Minimum Education Requirement : An

associate's degree

in a science-related field (e.g.,

Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry , or a related discipline) is required.

A

bachelor's degree

in a science-related field is preferred but not required.

Basic to intermediate knowledge of

environmental chemistry

and laboratory analysis methods, including

BNA ,

DRO ,

CPEST ,

OPEST , and

TVAP .

Proficiency with

Microsoft Office

(Word, Excel, Outlook).

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent attention to detail.

Experience with laboratory testing methods, particularly

GC ,

GC-MS , and

HPLC , is a plus.
