The Finance Department is currently seeking to fill one (1) full-time Accountant I/I vacancy in the Accounting Division, Financial Reporting work unit. If you are interested in this position, please apply!

The mission of the Finance Department is to strategically manage the City of San Jos's financial resources for all stakeholdersThe Finance Department has five core divisions:

The Finance Department works in partnership with the departments of Human Resources, Information Technology, and Public Works as the City's Strategic Support City Service Area to effectively develop, manage, and safeguard City fiscal, physical, technological, and human resources to enable and enhance the delivery of City services and projects. The Finance Department has a $26.2 million operating budget and 130 budgeted full-time equivalent (FTE) positions.Position Duties

The Department of Finance currently has one vacant Accountant position in the Financial Reporting section of the Accounting division. This role reports to the Supervising Accountant in the Financial Reporting group and involves a variety of responsibilities focused on preparing financial reports, analyzing data, and assisting with audits. Duties for this position are listed below:

Prepare and submit the Monthly Status Report and Bimonthly Financial Report (MFR) for the Budget Office by the established deadlines.Prepare and post Construction and Conveyance Revenue Allocation monthly.Monitor and analyze deferred revenue and accounts receivable balances throughout the year.Prepare the Negative Appropriation Balance Report, distribute out to the departments by the established deadlines, and compile the departments' responses.Conduct research, analysis, and coordinate responses from departments and address fund financial statements with negative balance.Monitor the opioid settlements monthly.Reconcile Cash & Securities Control with City cash accounts.Prepare financial statements for Worker's Compensation.Calculate and record worker's compensation liability and prepare schedules and journal entries for long-term liability at year-end.Prepare the assigned fund financial statements and analysis.Assist with the year-end audit, prepare audit schedules, ACFR footnotes, and respond to auditor's questions/requests during the ACFR season.Complete all assigned ACFR tasks by the published due dates and ensure related items in Gravity ACFR are reconciled.Prepare the GANN Limit Report.Prepare various State Controller's Reports, and respond to questions from the State Controller's Office.Assist with preparing the City's Cost Allocation Plans.Prepare budget JVs to record budget adjustments during the year.Prepare schedules and journal entries to record in FMS.Assist with implementing and enforcing GASB standards and continuously acquire knowledge on newly issued GASB pronouncements.Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Accountant ICompletion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Accounting or related field, which must include twelve (12) semester units in accounting subjects.

Accountant IICompletion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Accounting or related field, which must include eighteen (18) semester units in accounting subjects AND two (2) years of progressively responsible accounting or auditing experience.

Acceptable SubstitutionAccountant IExperience in the maintenance of financial records, systems or transactions may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. There will be no substitution for the twelve (12) semester units in accounting subjects.

SalariesAccountant I: $88,015.20 - $107,059.68 AnnuallyAccountant II: $96,074.16 - $116,778.48 Annually

The salaries above include a five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.
