Chief Operating Officer , a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, responsible for full oversight of the following departments: Medical Claims/Health Benefits, Retirement Benefits/Pension, Medical Review, and the Participant Services Center (call center and operations).This position works onsite in Studio City, CA.Local candidates only, relocation assistance is not provided.Qualified candidates, please submit a letter of interest, including compensation requirements, and current resume for consideration.MPI offers free employee medical, dental, behavioral health, vision, and life insurance ($50/month for family coverage), retirement and pension, and generous paid time off.The COO leads, oversees, and manages the day-to-day operations of various business units for multi-employer health and retirement benefit plans, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness across all departments. Oversees the execution of the operational plans for the following departments: Medical Claims/Health Benefits, Retirement Benefits, Medical Review, and the Participant Services Center.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESSets operational standards, develops business plans and strategic initiatives, prioritizes resources and plans, assesses operational, business, and participant service needs, and related activities.Develops, implements, and updates policies, procedures, programs, and workflows to meet the goals established by the CEO and the Board of Directors.Ensures operations are in compliance with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, benefit plan provisions, policies, and procedures. Interprets and carries out policies and procedures in accordance with ERISA, HIPAA, DOL, IRS, Plan documents, Summary Plan Descriptions, and other organizational rules.Drives continuous improvement initiatives to optimize operational processes and enhance productivity. Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to track operational performance and make data-driven decisions.Provides guidance on trust fund rules, policies, and benefit plan provisions.Prepares regular, detailed reports for the CEO and Board of Directors on the activities and operations of business units including Medical Claims/Health Benefits, Participant Services, and Retirement Benefits.Manages four direct reports (Director level); provides developmental and performance feedback, writes performance reviews, handles related leadership, management, and supervisory responsibilities as required.QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLSMinimum of ten years’ experience in a senior operations management role, working closely with a CEO and a Board of Directors.Knowledge of multi-employer defined benefit and defined contribution retirement plans, and associated legislation and regulations (e.g., ERISA, DOL, and IRS regulations).Knowledge of multi-employer health plan designs and associated legislation and regulations.Ability to work with Plan counsel, consultants, and actuaries on a regular basis.Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree a plus); a combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.Experience in a collectively bargained environment preferred.Trust fund experience a plus.Highly motivated, proactive, results-oriented executive with strong management skills; Strong leader who values collaboration, teamwork, and diversity.Demonstrated success as a key participant on a senior management team, providing positive leadership and strong operational management.Demonstrated ability to prioritize a broad variety of issues and manage a wide range of initiatives and work objectives.Strong problem-solving and presentation skills with the ability to think and respond quickly.Strong business acumen and the ability to successfully adapt to rapid change.Ability to be hands-on as well as direct the activities of others.Ability to take initiative and work independently as well as on a team.Ability to be proactive and establish priorities.Must possess strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, including strong technical knowledge and skills.Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making to integrate organizational priorities, meet deadlines, and achieve objectives.Ability to think analytically and apply sound judgment, resolve problems, make effective decisions, and act with integrity.Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and tact.Proficiency (intermediate level) in the use of Microsoft Office products.Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.The anticipated base salary for this position is $200,000-$250,000 annually. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held.Submissions will be reviewed; only candidates most closely matching the requirements of the position will be contacted.Please note, this is an onsite position at our offices in Studio City, CA.
