OVERVIEW:

The Property Accountant is responsible for overseeing general accounting operations, verifying financial transactions, and preparing and reviewing monthly financials.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Adhere to MRD Core Values of being Honest and having Integrity, being a Team Player, having a Desire to Grow and Learn, being Positive and Enthusiastic, Taking Ownership, and being Customer Focused.Communicate professionally, politely, and effectively with fellow team members, residents, and vendors.Reconcile balance sheets accounts to subledgers.Reconcile bank statements monthly.Run monthly accounting processes such as GPR, management fees, intercompany reimbursements, and journal entries.Precise review of general ledger and account coding.Monitor daily transactions for accuracy.Ensure financial statements are prepared timely and accurately.Perform financial statement analysis and collaborate across departments to recommend and implement improvements.Analyze cash balances, reserves, and escrows.Assist with budget preparation and analysis.Communicate with sites, regionals, directors, and staff as needed.Manage property tax assessments and appeals when required.Assist in year-end tax and audit preparation.Assist other team members with special projects.Take ownership of properties within assigned portfolio.Record, reclass, and adjust journal entries as needed.Assist CFO and Director of Accounting and Controller in preparing various analyses, reports, and other financial driven information.Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting for owners and external entities.Provide financial information and clarification to owners and executive management team.Maintain internal controls and monitor accounting records.Work with team members to investigate and resolve accounting matters.Prepare and post complex refinancing entries. Support and train accounting staff.Regular worksite attendance is required.Position may be assigned and required to perform other related duties and responsibilities that help to drive our company forward and fulfill our core values.Conduct all business in accordance with MRD policies, procedures, and values.Abide by Fair Housing Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and all other Federal, State, and Local laws.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Complete assigned courses through MRD eLearning in accordance with MRD expectations.Respond to training provided by supervisors to improve qualifications in performing all duties to the highest potential.Adhere to MRD dress code policy during working hours.Attend and participate in team meetings.Be able to work independently to complete tasks.REPORTS TO:

Director of Accounting and Controller

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in accounting.Understanding of GAAP and accounting standards.Proficient in Yardi Voyager preferred.Competency working in Microsoft Word and Excel.Specialization in middle-market sized businesses, preferably within real estate and/or property management.Proficient in general ledger accounting and posting monthly entries.Ability to communicate effectively, be team oriented, and work collaboratively with other departments.Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage time effectively.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.Able to pass pre-employment screening.

WORK HOURS:

Full-time work hours.
