Position Summary

Our Nestl Development Center (NDC) in St. Joseph, MO is home to confident, well socialized dogs and cats who help us learn, research, and better understand the well-being of pets and promote the human animal bond. You'll work alongside a team passionate about pet care that ensures our pets have the best quality of care while participating in cutting edge pet food research. Our center is located near the metropolitan area of Kansas City, within 30 minutes of the Kansas City International airport. St. Joseph is a tight-knit, rural community packed with character, still within commuting distance to the city thus, providing many residential opportunities.

As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll assist with and perform essential tasks related to the health care of cats and dogs under a veterinarian's supervision. You will develop knowledge of and adhere to the Animal Welfare Act and all procedures outlined in the Nestl Purina R&D Petcare Manual, QMS, and GLP.

Review and administer prescriptions and treatments while observing animals during their treatment; monitor and report progress to veterinariansConduct daily rounds, reporting any sick or unusual behavior to the veterinariansProvide pet care within the clinic, including handling, husbandry duties, and maintaining cleanlinessPrepare surgery supplies, ensuring surgical instruments are sterilized and patients are prepared for proceduresAcquire the skills to monitor a patient's heart rate, respiration, and temperature during and after minor anesthetic proceduresMaintain necessary records, including animal care and anesthetic/prophylactic care documentation, as well as filing/inputting laboratory resultsRecord animal medical/clinical data as specified in protocols and enter health information into the databaseRequirements

High school diploma or GED1+ years of professional working with animal husbandry experience OR a bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Zoology, or a scientific fieldOther

1+ years of experience working in a veterinary clinic environment is preferred1+ years of experience assisting with veterinary dental cleanings is preferredMust be willing to work Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday from 6:30AM to 3:00PMMust be willing to work overtime hours if neededThe approximate pay range for this position is $32,800.00 to $45,000.00. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as geographic location of the position.
