At GCI, we solve the hard problems. As a LinuxSystems Administrator, a typical day will include the following duties:

The Linux Systems Administrator position will apply expertise in the installation, configuration, operations, and maintenance of Linux-based architectures. The systems administrator will focus on improving the stability and performance of the platform, maintaining and improving the security posture of the domain, continuous monitoring of system health, and troubleshooting issues that arise. This individual is accountable for Linux and application systems that support the infrastructure. Responsibilities on these systems include engineering, operations and maintenance, and research and development to ensure continual operation. The individual must be proficient in building, documenting, and providing Tier 3 engineering support.

The position requires deep technical knowledge of systems, networks, and application security as well as a solid understanding of enterprise-level security frameworks, policies, processes, and standards. The candidate must have strong analytical skills for troubleshooting complex issues, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Key duties include maintaining operating systems, application support, integration, design, and assistance with additional duties as needed to support the team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide daily operational support for Linux operating systems and applicationsSupport virtual and physical infrastructure of servers running Rocky8 (and other RedHat derivatives) in dev, test, and production configurationsSupport an infrastructure of different applications comprising of end user applications, developer tools and infrastructure support applications.Develop and maintain environments running in Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).Develop and maintain standards and procedures for applications across a complex computing infrastructureDevelop and maintain comprehensive documentationMonitor application and operating system performance; analyze, document and remediate incidentsDevelop and oversee implementation of testing strategies and document the resultsLeverage scripting and system automation toolsMaintain current knowledge of relevant technologiesResearch and recommend hardware and software, coordinate installation, and provide backup recoveryInteract with users and evaluate vendor productsReview incidents to understand the root causes and ensure implementation of proper fixesCollaborate with system administrators, engineers, and the client to ensure proper integration of applicationsConfigures system controls for Linux platforms, and remediates issues found by Continuous Monitoring activitiesWorks with tech team to complete required maintenance and patching, DTOs, File TransfersProvides security reports (e.g. Log files, Scans, etc.)Coordinates security waivers and approvalsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, and work experience.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Extensive experience with Red Hat or other derivative OS' (CentOS, Rocky, Scientific Linux)Demonstrated experience with automating configuration and change management using scripting languages. (Bash, Python, Ansible, etc.)Demonstrated experience with Collaboration platforms, such as Atlassian Jira and Confluence.Demonstrated experience using local virtualization platforms (VMWare Workstation, Oracle VirtualBox)Demonstrated experience collaborating with other systems administrators, storage administrators, application developers, and network engineers to solve complex problemsDESIRED SKILLS
