GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: In conjunction with the Pulmonary Rehab Team, is responsible for the daily operations of the exercise/education component of the Outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program along with administrative duties as assigned. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Conducts the exercise component of the program with other team member(s). · Monitors vital signs, adjusts oxygen as needed and determines when to defer or terminate a treatment session per protocol. · Documents clear and concisely in the patient medical record. · Develops patient teaching materials and protocols for the Pulmonary Rehab Program. · Responsible for maintaining a strong and current knowledge of pulmonary rehabilitation information via lectures, seminars, independent reading, etc. · Consistently demonstrates the ability to assess a situation, consider solutions, alternatives and ramifications, and choose the appropriate course of action. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: · A.S./B.S. in Respiratory Therapy. · Registration (RRT) by the N.B.R.C. · One year clinical experience as a Respiratory Therapist. · Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. · Active Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) by the American Heart Association. Preferred: · B.S. in Respiratory Therapy. · Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) by the American Heart Association. · Prior experience in Pulmonary Rehab. SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: · Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to interact with physicians, nurses and other allied health care members. · Must possess strong mechanical and analytical skills. · Must possess strong organizational skills. · Must demonstrate ability to troubleshoot and respond to medical emergencies. WORKING CONDITIONS: · Works primarily in outpatient care area and is exposed to various cleaning agents. · Frequent exposure to communicable diseases. HOSPITAL WIDE RESPONSIBILITIES: Works within legal, regulatory, accreditation and ethical practice standards relevant to the position and as established by BWH/MGB; follows safe practices required for the position; complies with appropriate BWH and MGB policies and procedures; fulfills any training required by BWH and/or MGB, as appropriate; brings potential matters of non-compliance to the attention of the supervisor or other appropriate hospital staff.
