Duties and responsibilities are subject to change and other duties may be assigned as necessary.Summary:The Linux/HPC (High Performance Computing) administrator will assist the IT team in managing the Institute's highly collaborative scientific computing environment. They maintain and enhance the integrity, security, and performance of our Linux operating system. Installs, configures, and updates Linux systems and software, troubleshoot issues, and ensures the system is secure, reliable, and efficient.Duties and Responsibilities:Assist in the management of the Institute's centralized computer cluster and associated storageConfigure systems in alignment with security best practicesPerform and validate system backup and monitoring.Apply required system and application patches; package management; third-party software installation and maintenanceTroubleshoot hardware and software issues and provide user supportConfigure Linux servers/workstationsSupport for lab Linux workstations and serversPerform other related tasks, duties and responsibilities as required, assigned or directed.Education and/or Experience:
High School diploma required, but a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, or another scientific or technical field is preferredExperience with life science informatics applications and environmentsAt least three years professional experience with Red Hat/CentOS or UbuntuExperience with the following areas and platforms is preferred:Virtualization/container technologies (VMware, Apptainer, Docker, KVM, etc.)Cluster management experience (Slurm preferred)Amazon Web Services (S3, EC2)Network-attached storage (NAS) configuration and maintenanceAutomation using shell / PythonDeployment and maintenance of web servers (Apache, nginx)Database maintenance (MySQL/MariaDB)Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
Strong oral and written communications skillsAbility to document, track and execute requirements, policies, procedures, and system modificationsAbility to work with others in a constructive and collaborative mannerEnthusiastic, dynamic self-starter able to own issues to conclusionMay on occasion be required to lift 25+ lbs (e.g. racking servers, storage devices, etc.)Supervisory Responsibilities:This position does not have any formal supervisory responsibilities
Compensation:
The Expected Hiring Range for this position is $81,429 - $98,000.
