Renton Technical College (RTC) is seeking a security professional to join our team. Our goals are to provide a safe and secure working and learning environment for our community. The part-time Campus Security Officer is a classified and overtime eligible position and is a member of the Campus Security Department. This position reports to the Security Field Supervisor and Director of Safety and Security under the Department of Student Services. The Campus Security Officer is customer service oriented and responsible for ensuring a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for faculty, staff, students, and guests on campus. Renton Technical College has a very diverse student, staff, and faculty population. Work hours for this position will be

6:00am - 2:00pm, on Saturdays .

This position is represented by The Renton Professional Technical Association (Prof-Tech). The pay range for this role is

$26.85 - $35.64

hourly and salary placement is based on applicable work experience. New hires may not be placed above Step 10 ($33.81.) Prof-Tech employees receive a yearly degree stipend if they have an Associate's degree $150, Bachelor's $250, or a Master's $350. Other benefits are listed on our page and in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include

Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.Patrol campus grounds by foot, and department patrol vehicle, assist with vehicle unlocks, jump start requests, and conduct parking enforcementReceive incoming phone calls while on duty and self-dispatch with department issued phone.Conduct routine security checks of facilities and grounds daily.Lock and unlock buildings and arm and disarm alarms as needed.Perform safety and security inspections of AED and other life-safety equipment on a regular basis.Understand and enforce all the rules and regulations for the college.Provide assistance to faculty, staff and visitors.Contact Renton Police for trespass notices and escort trespassers from campus when necessary.Provide walking and vehicle escorts for students, faculty, and staff upon request.Wear issued uniform, carry, and maintain issued equipment.Engage in professional development provided by the college.Be available to work outside of normally scheduled shift for special events or to provide coverage for training, vacation, sick time, or other leave for other department staff.Respond to all alarms while on call.May be responsible for or assist with the secure delivery of goods.Maintain an accurate daily shift log. Complete and submit incident reports in a timely manner.Contact the police or fire department(s) as needed in the event of emergency. Provide support as needed (directions, building access, scene security, etc.).Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.Maintain knowledge of the Jeanne Clery Act and assist in ensuring compliance.Perform other related tasks as assigned.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner and communicate effectively, while using tact, discretion, and courtesy even in stressful situations.High school graduate or equivalent.One year of customer service work experience, preferably in the security or public safety field.One year of security experience and conflict resolution.Possess an understanding of local, state, and federal laws.Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work to meet changing priorities and deadlines.Proficiency in standard computer applications including Microsoft Office, Outlook, smart phone use and applications, two-way radio system, access control software, video management software, alarm applications, and records management software.Possess a valid Washington State driver's license and have a safe driving record.Possess or be able to obtain First Aid, CPR and AED certification. (Training and certification will be provided at no cost to the employee).Ability to walk, stand, climb, and sit for an 8-hour shift.Maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment required.Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as a team.Training in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 months of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Two Years Prior Security, Law Enforcement, or Military experience.One Year Higher Education work experience.ICS 100 and IS 700 Incident command training certification.Prior training and experience with the use of force continuum and defensive tactics.

WORKING CONDITIONS:Campus Security Officers may be required to report to work when the college is closed due to emergencies. Work is physical and mental in nature, involving active movement (walking, standing, climbing, running, and sitting) with sound judgment and leadership while performing daily activities and handling emergencies. Work is performed outside with exposure to the elements of weather, and inside in an environment that is adequately heated and ventilated with exposure to computer screens. Work hours for this position will be 6:00am - 2:00pm, on Saturdays.Terms of Employment
