Program Overview:

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship Training Program at DOCS Dermatology is designed to provide comprehensive education and hands-on experience to Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) in the field of dermatology. This program aims to cultivate highly skilled, knowledgeable, and competent dermatology APPs who can deliver exceptional patient care.The program is a 12-month, full-time, salaried program. The Physician Associate will see a broad spectrum of undifferentiated patients in order of presentation of assignment by faculty preceptor with an emphasis on quality of patient evaluation and care.Job Responsibilities

Patient Care:Perform initial assessments, history, and physical exams.Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans, conduct procedures, and interact with patients' families.Maintain accurate medical records.Conduct case discussions with faculty preceptors before diagnostic or therapeutic interventions.Gain experience in various patient procedures and balance quality patient care with efficiency.Initiate common diagnostic studies and therapeutic interventions for straightforward cases.Perform all procedures under the supervision and approval of the faculty preceptor.Educational Duties:Attend 90% of educational offerings from the Fellowship Director, including weekly case study presentations and clinical assignments.Training Phases:

Months 1-5:Rotate through Outpatient Dermatology with the faculty preceptor.Obtain dermatologic histories, perform physical exams, and present case histories.Learn to perform office-based microscopic examinations, cryosurgery, chemosurgery, patch testing, injections, and abscess drainage.Develop communication skills and independent study habits.Generate differential diagnoses for cutaneous neoplasms and understand biopsy approaches.Perform skin biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, wound debridement, and nail avulsion under supervision.Months 6-12:Continue rotations in Outpatient Dermatology and specific rotations in Dermatologic Surgery, Dermatopathology, and Pediatric Dermatology.Generate broader differential diagnoses and become proficient in dermatologic medications and light therapy.Make independent decisions with input from the faculty preceptor.Increase patient load from 6-10 patients daily to a maximum of 25 patients by the last month.Perform sclerotherapy, cosmetic procedures, laser surgery, and complex excisions under supervision.Minimum Qualifications

Core Competencies:

Perform comprehensive skin exams and identify normal and abnormal structures.Develop differential diagnoses for cutaneous conditions and systemic manifestations.Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including biopsies, microscopy, and patch testing.Formulate and implement patient-centered care plans, integrating evidence-based principles.Perform therapeutic procedures, including acne surgery, excision of lesions, cryotherapy, and laser therapies.Collaborate with interdisciplinary professionals for optimal patient care.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Board-certified NP or PA with an active state medical license in good standing.3-5 years of experience as an NP/PA is encouraged.Ability to work collaboratively within a team.Demonstrated experience in delivering high-quality, efficient care.Sense of urgency and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.Physical Demands:

Ability to lift or carry items up to 25lbs.Visual/hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written/verbal communication.Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity, which may include lifting of supplies, patients, and equipment, extensive bending, standing, walking or sitting.Hand dexterity.
