Job
Purpose :
Maggie's Place is a mid-size non-profit organization located in Phoenix that is looking for a dynamic, self-starter Senior Accountant to enhance an established accounting/finance department. This position will be responsible for grant accounting, payroll accounting, and general accounting duties. This position will report to the Vice President of Finance.
Responsibilities:
Accounting:
Ensure deadlines for month-end close and financial reporting requirements are met and in accordance with GAAP.
Assist with the management of all aspects of accounting activities including:
Track and record all appropriate expenses related to government contracts and funding reports to provide accurate reimbursement invoices to funders.
Prepare monthly journal entries, accruals, and alloctions
Reconcile bank accounts monthly
Participate in and prepare for annual audits and monitoring in grantors
Prepare and review monthly income statement and balance sheets
Review monthly balance sheet reconciliations for accuracy
Review monthly credit card charges for accurate posting to general ledger
Record and amortize fixed assets
Working with the VP of Finance to prepare financial reports for management and Board; prepare for annual audit; all grant related accounting including the understanding of grant parameters, grant budgets, generating monthly grant billings and reporting.
Participate in development of annual budget by tracking current expenses.
Maintain organized records and filing system both in the cloud and physical copies.
Payroll
Review payroll reports and allocate payroll transactions across multiple departments and funding sources.
Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or relatable field preferred.
5-7 years of accounting experience preferred.
1-2 years of payroll accounting experience a plus.
Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of GAAP and ability to set applicable controls.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information and interact effectively with Executive Management Team and department heads.
Advanced MS Office software.
Non-profit and/or grant accounting experience a plus.
Passion for Maggie's Place Mission.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Additional Requirements:
Must possess or have regular access to a reliable vehicle on a regular basis.
Ability to lift 30 lbs is required.
Work Environment
On-Site at the Family Success CenterMust possess a valid Arizona driver license and active auto insurance.Must be able to comply and meet the national and state criminal background check, national sex offender registry, level one fingerprint clearance card, and a Motor Vehicle Records check as required by Maggie's Place.
