About the Department:
ITS is Mason's central IT organization. We provide IT resources, systems, services, and tools to the university community. Enterprise Applications Support & Development which includes web development, applications development/support (custom .Net, Java, and third-party), and workflow/robotic process automation.
About the Position:
The Application Business Analyst evaluates and documents requests for new automated workflows that will enable university efficiency. The Analyst works closely with the Workflow Team Manager, other team members, and university offices following team best practices and standards to create requirements documentation, perform alpha testing, and assist with user acceptance testing.
Responsibilities:
Facilitates Proper Requirement Gathering Before Development Starts
Regularly meets with client(s) and subject matter expert(s) to properly gather all requirements; and
Fully documents all the requirements in a process design document to be used by developers.
Performs Initial (Alpha) Testing
Performs alpha testing of created workflow application to ensure it matches given requirements and catch any issues; and
Reports deviations from original requirements, bugs and issues to developer for quick fix before the user testing starts.
Works Closely With Client During User Acceptance Testing Phase
Demos the newly created application to client to increase familiarity before user testing starts; and
Sets up and monitors a Scope Change document to be used by client to document their testing feedback and any possible scope changes.
Creates Final Documents With the Help of Developers and Clients Once the Project is Done
Helps developers create technical document to be used for future maintenance;
Helps client create a user guide to be used by general users of the workflow application;
Follows up with client to get final sign off document; and
Makes sure all related documents are properly stored in the correct folder for future reference.
Required Qualifications:
Associate's degree in related field;
Experience in creating technical documentations;
Experience as an Application Analyst working with clients and developers;
Experience and familiarity with software testing; and
Good working knowledge as an application business analyst creating application requirements and involvement during development life cycle.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in related field;
Experience within the higher education industry;
Experience with Ellucian Banner; and
Ability to create process design document based on client's need.
