POSITION SUMMARY

:

The Senior QI (Quality Improvement) Data Analyst works with the Director of Clinical Analytics/ Manager of Hospital Performance Analytics to facilitate the accessibility, understanding, and active use of data required to improve the quality of care, patient safety, service, and related outcomes throughout BMC. The Senior QI Data Analyst provides in-house content expertise in informatics and statistical/epidemiological analysis and provides limited project management support. The Senior QI Data Analyst is a customer service oriented position that serves the information needs of clinicians, administrators and staff throughout BMC.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:Serves the data and information needs of a wide variety of customers including physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, administrator and a wide-variety of non-technical staff throughoutWorks closely with BMC Data Warehouse team to extract data using SQL toolsPerforms as an expert user of the Vizient Clinical Database in order to acquire data neededIntegrates data from BMC Data Warehouse, Vizient Clinical Database and other sources as neededAnalyzes data using appropriate statistical/epidemiological methodologies, including (but not limited to) regression analysis/risk adjustment, using tools such as SAS, SPSS, and other tools as needed.Prepares graphical reports for a wide variety of customers throughout BMC in a manner that meets the needs of end-usersMeets with customers throughout BMC including administrators, clinicians and staff to understand data/information needed in order to manage the clinical enterprise and facilitate quality improvement activitiesProvides data and information to customers in a readily accessible, understandable and actionable manner using tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, Crystal Reports, Visio and other tools as neededServes on quality improvement teams to support data and information needs of high priority quality improvement projects.Supports development, updating and distribution of quality and patient safety dashboard and other standard reportsPromotes continual improvement in data visualization and reporting processesTrains end-user community in pragmatic interpretation of statistics, such as statistical process controlProvides guidance to lower-level analysts and aids Director of Clinical Analytics /Manager of Hospital Performance AnalyticsPerforms other duties as assigned and/or necessary.JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Master's degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline.EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 4 years of experience working with large data sets in a position focused on the delivery of numerical data to a wide variety of customers.Experience in health care strongly preferred.Experience conducting advanced analytics using SQLExperience developing dashboards using Tableau.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Technically proficient :

Strong coding skills. Capable of manipulating large data sets, cleaning and normalizing data, generating analysis and working through challenges independently.Strong analytic thinking : Effective at identifying the critical question, capable of navigating the trade-off between accuracy / comprehensiveness / complexity vs. speed and simplicity, able to make independent decisions on how to adjust assumptions and analyses. Can distill complex analysis into simple charts to communicate key takeaways.Curious and creative:

Capable of finding the right analytic approach, always asking questions and testing the data and analysis to ensure that we are answering the right key questions.Outcomes-focused:

Ability to manage multiple high priority projects simultaneously and prioritize to meet key deadlines.Strong verbal and written skills . Must be able to communicate effectively with diverse audiences including physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, administrator and a wide-variety of non-technical staff.Excellent interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to work in a team oriented environment.
