Job Description
Summary of position:
This full-time position (40 hours per week) reports to the Director of the Queens County Forensic Psychiatric Evaluation Court Clinic (FPECC) in the Division of Correctional Health Services. The Clinic, located in the Queens County Criminal Court Building at 125-01 Queens Boulevard in Kew Gardens, is responsible for conducting fitness to proceed examinations under NYS Criminal Procedure Law Article 730 and pre-sentencing evaluations under NYS Criminal Procedure Law Article 390 for defendants in the Queens County criminal justice system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct court-ordered evaluations of criminal defendants and submit timely written reports to the Courts
- Provide teaching and supervision for clinicians in training
- Participate in regular supervision with the Director of the Queens FPECC
- Actively participate in staff meetings, clinic quality improvement projects, and continuing education
- Remain aware of and in compliance with organizational policies and procedures
- From time to time, as needed, conduct CPL 730 and CPL 390 evaluations in the other FPECCs (Bronx, Brooklyn/Staten Island, Manhattan); may at times be required to divide time between two or more FPECCs
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Manhattan Forensic Psychiatric Evaluation Court Clinic or the city-wide Director of the Forensic Psychiatric Evaluation Court Clinics
- Excellent diagnostic and evaluation skills with particular attention to issues related to forming opinions about psycho-legal questions
- Excellent forensic report writing skills
- Clinical experience with forensic mental health populations
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with other professional disciplines
- Excellent organizational skills
- Proficiency with word processing programs and spreadsheets
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Education
a. M.D. or D.O. degree with active New York State license in good standing
b. ABPN Certification in Psychiatry
c. Completion of an ABPN-accredited fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry - Experience: At least one year of experience writing forensic psychiatric reports (may include fellowship training).
- An equivalent and satisfactory combination of education and experience may be considered
- Graduation from an approved medical school.
- Completion of approved residency or fellowship in the specialty or sub-specialty and Board eligible or certified or Subboard eligible or certified.
- Five years experience in field of specialty or subspecialty acceptable to the Medical Board of the Hospital.
- Licensed to practice medicine in the State of New York.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Graduation from an approved medical school.
2. Completion of approved residency or fellowship in the specialty or sub-specialty and Board eligible or certified or Subboard eligible or certified.
3. Five years experience in field of specialty or subspecialty acceptable to the Medical Board of the Hospital.
4. Licensed to practice medicine in the State of New York.
