Job Title: Central Sterile Technician Certified Job Specialty: Sterile Processing Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 3rd shift, Tuesday - Saturday, 10:30 PM - 7:00 AM Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week Experience: Six (6) months of related experience required License: None required Certifications: Technician certification from either the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) Must-Have: Certification and relevant experience Job Description: - Responsible for cleaning, decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and reusable supply items. - Coordinate and prepare necessary supplies and instruments for emergent and routine surgical cases. - Assemble and wrap instrument sets, ensuring proper use of sterilized sonic cleaners and other related equipment. - Retrieve and deliver surgical instruments in a timely manner. - Thoroughly inspect instruments to ensure all are clean and in good repair/working order before the sterilization process. - Decontaminate instruments using appropriate chemical mixtures and procedures. - Test, operate, and load autoclaves. - Participate in routine cleaning and decontamination of all department work surfaces. - Complete sterilization log sheets. - Periodically check sterile inventory to remove those items where sterilization has expired or packaging has been compromised and re-sterilize compromised instrument sets. - Identify and notify appropriate personnel of inventory or supply shortages. - May assist in training new staff. - Perform tasks necessary to prepare and maintain accurate Case Carts. - Pull required supplies and instruments for cases. - Coordinate with operating room staff to ensure that proper supplies for each case are delivered as needed. - Maintain optimal levels of patient care surgical supplies and/or equipment. - Practice good inventory control techniques by following FIFO (first in, first out) practice. - Perform other duties as assigned.
