Our client is a Private Equity firm in downtown Houston, focusing on growth and turnaround capital investments in the energy sector. They are currently seeking an Accounting Manager who is an expert in upstream oil and gas accounting. Expertise will include General Ledger (e.g., period closes, audit support, GAAP entries for ARO, depletion, hedge mark to market, impairments, etc.), A/P & JIB (e.g., COPAS standards, coding, allocations, controls, SUT and property tax, etc.), and Revenue (e.g., severance taxes, production allocation, royalty burdens, ONRR, allowable royalty owner charges, etc.). This role also plans and directs accounting activities within the accounting department. and is responsible for staff development and performance. Responsibilities: This job has supervisory responsibilities for accounting staff including revenue, property, and accounts payable specialists. Assists in developing and implementing goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to day-to-day accounting activities. Leads month-end close activities along with preparation of financial reports. Participates in the preparation of various accounting statements and reports. Reviews, makes entries, and maintains general and subsidiary ledgers, accounts receivable, revenue distribution, depreciation, cost, property, and operating expenses. Aides in preparation and review of Payables, JIB, and Revenue processes. Oversees activities of internal and third-party accounting personnel Assists in the preparation of external audit materials and external financial reporting. Directs the installation and maintenance of new accounting, inventory, property, and other related procedures and controls. Manage and mentor staff by providing performance feedback and coaching. Review performance counselee time budgets and performance and development goals. Competencies Strong understanding of upstream oil and gas accounting principles related to classifying, recording, and summarizing data Analytical, organization, planning, interpersonal, project management, communication, and troubleshooting skills. Take on occasional special project work with the ability to manage the project from start to finish. Investigate/implement tools to improve efficiencies and margins. Should demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and multi-tasking to meet deadlines Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required Ten (10) plus years of progressively responsible experience in professional accounting functions, including seven (7) plus years in the upstream oil and gas industry Five (5) years of supervisory experience, mentoring and counseling associates Previous public accounting and/ or consulting experience is a plus Strong knowledge of upstream oil and gas accounting concepts High motivation, initiative, and positive attitude Experience with Quorum Enterprise required; OGSQL accounting software a plus Highly developed software and Microsoft Suite skills (MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). Ability to work in a cross-functional, rapidly changing, deadline-driven environment Strong attention to detail and focus on accuracy Excellent organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to multitask and handle multiple priorities appropriately Ability to learn new technology and processes quickly Strong analytical thinker and problem solver Team player, will roll up their sleeves to get into the detail Excellent verbal and written communication skills
