This position is responsible for the planning, coordination, and teaching of the classroom, skills lab, and clinical setting training experience for students who are taking the 105-hour IDOH approved certified nurse aide training course.
Essential Job Functions
Demonstrates knowledge of The Indiana Nurse Aide Curriculum and the thirty (30) "lessons" that makes up the curriculum of minimum standards for an approved program.Participate in interviewing and selecting CNA candidates into the 105- hour IDOH approved training course.Demonstrates ability to understand and teach each lessons objectives, terms, content, and review questions.Provides direct instruction and support to students during classroom rotation for a minimum of 30 hours.Utilize the lesson plans as a basis for training and may complement the lessons using a text and supplementing learning materials of choice (text books, handbooks, videos). It is the responsibility of the instructor to ensure that, if a text or other supplements are utilized, that any variance in the content from the Indiana Nursing Assistant Scope of Practice shall be identified to prevent misinformation as to the duties of the nursing assistant.Uses the nurse aide lesson plans as a "guide" for classroom lecture.Introduces & demonstrates resident care procedures (RCPs) during lecture then reinforces during the clinical experience.Responsible to update the lesson plan accordingly without waiting for revised curriculum to be distributed by the Indiana Department of Health should a standard of practice, at any time, be revised by an applicable regulatory entity.Maintain student files during classroom instruction and clinical completion that holds the necessary classroom and clinical training and testing materials. Files shall be stored with the director.Provides direct instruction and support to students during clinical rotation for the first 16 hours of clinical instruction at the facility for which the students received their classroom instruction.Provides direct oversight to students throughout the remainder of their clinical hours equaling a minimum of 75 hours.Collects completed RCPs at completion of clinical rotation and maintains records in student file.Signs off on required application for completion of the 105-hour course completion and submits documents to the Certified Nurse Aide Program Director for application to test.Submits completed student file to Certified Nurse Aide Program Director for record keeping.Participates in any Certified Nurse Aide Program graduation or celebration event recognizing the students' success.
Qualifications
Education/Training
Holds a license as either a practical nurse or registered nurse in the state of Indiana.Complete the approved Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program "Train -the- Trainer" course.Experience
Two years experience within long-term care related to operations in the nursing department.Experience including leadership and teaching is preferred.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of state and federal regulations as they pertain to standards of nursing practice and a demonstrated capacity to comply with them are required.Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer required.Ability to communicate effectively with adult learners both in writing and orally.Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.Ability to create student files and keep them updated per state regulations.
