Clinical Lab Scientist, Per DiemZSFG Clinical Laboratory - MicrobiologyPer Diem81517BRJob SummaryThe Clinical Laboratory Scientist will be responsible for all work assigned in all areas of the Clinical Laboratory including routine procedures, method improvement and development and evaluation. All work performed is to be completed within a required time frame ensuring shortest turnaround time. This position performs laboratory testing procedures, computer functions, and quality control in the Microbiology Division. Responsible for routine isolation, interpretation, identification, and/or antibiotic susceptibility testing of all types of specimens for bacteria, mycobacteria, fungi, and parasites. Interpret smears for microorganisms. Perform serologic and molecular diagnostic tests. All work is to be accurately and professionally documented and entered into laboratory computer system. This position performs all duties in a manner that denotes the team concept and reflects the UCSF and ZSFG mission, vision and values.Department DescriptionThe Clinical Laboratory at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital provides laboratory testing services for inpatients and outpatients of SFGH, Laguna Honda Hospital, District Health Centers and other facilities under the auspices of the SF Public Health Department.Required QualificationsGraduation from college with a Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate scientific fieldPossession of a California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License or a similar license of equal or higher level issued by the State Department of HealthAble to work independently, under pressure; recognize and resolve problems while maintaining a high level of organizationEffective verbal and written communication skills relative to clinical resultsExperience with a clinical laboratory computer system and PC skillsMust be able to work overtime and/or altered shifts when assignedPreferred QualificationsA minimum twelve months recent (within the last two years) experience as a Licensed Clinical Lab Scientist with recent experience in clinical microbiologyLicense/CertificationA valid California Department of Health Clinical Laboratory Scientist licenseAbout UCSFThe University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a leading university dedicated to promoting health worldwide through advanced biomedical research, graduate-level education in the life sciences and health professions, and excellence in patient care.
