Beginning 3 years ago, Lyft began investing in building a top-to-bottom Mapping platform to enable timely, accurate, and efficient navigation and routing for more than 800 million rides each year. Lyft's Mapping team has built industry leading mapping solutions, including: effective and accurate navigation, a data enrichment platform to add mapping data layers to inform each journey, accurate ETA prediction, smooth pickup and dropoff experiences, and accurate traffic and closure information. Most importantly, this team has transformed what the mapping and ride experience is for Rideshare Drivers and Riders.
With these building blocks in place, the team is now looking for a visionary, senior leader to push the boundaries of the organization's mandate to ensure all aspects of the Rider and Driver experience work every time and create moments of delight for our customers.
The Head of Mapping will guide the team to bring innovation to our line of Mapping products, ETA and routing technology to redefine what Mapping can do for Drivers and Riders. They will be an executive-level cross-functional partner with product, science, engineering, and operations teams and be responsible for setting the product vision and strategy as well as owning the delivery of an engineering roadmap, driving execution, and fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. This leader will be an inspiring people leader who can be a mentor, coach, and supporter to a team of experienced engineers and product managers, as well as for the entire Mapping team.
Responsibilities:
Create a clear and compelling product vision and strategy as well as roadmap that drives our differentiated customer experience forward and contributes to business outcomes.
Understand the competitive landscape and both general/ industry trends as well as local movements in passenger experiences to inform strategies and roadmaps.
Translate customer, business, and internal user needs into clear, well-defined strategies backed by data analysis and deep understanding of the technical systems including AI and human-in-the-loop.
Manage, inspire, and develop a team of high caliber engineers and product managers, providing them with development, mentorship, and coaching to help them achieve theirs and Lyft's goals.
Drive close cross-functional collaboration to deliver engineering excellence.
Guide and interface closely with data scientists and product teams to define scope, review, and refine technical capabilities, prioritize projects for release, and define new opportunities.
Serve as a strategic and collaborative partner to the highest levels of Lyft leadership to drive company-wide workstreams while influencing executive priorities and direction.
Experience & Attributes:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
14+ years of experience in software engineering, product management, or technical leadership, with at least 7 years in a leadership role.
Extraordinary interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills; cultivator of collaboratively working relationships with teams across an organization, stakeholders, and executives.
Excellent judgment and thoughtfulness about the dynamics of an ever-evolving landscape; considers entire life cycle of deployment in order to ensure a delightful customer experience.
Demonstrated experience managing and growing a high performing team of engineers, while providing development, mentorship, and excitement to exceed team and department goals.
You have a technical background and are able to contribute to planning and design discussions.
You are steadfastly focused on customers, whether they are drivers, riders, partners, or Lyft employees.
Forward-thinking, analytical and problem-solving mindset, drawn to building off of ambiguous and unsolved problems and "making it happen".

The expected base pay range for this position in the San Francisco Bay Area is $260,000 - $325,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
