Davis Lab - Microscopist - Junior/Assistant/Associate/Full SpecialistDepartment of Biochemistry and BiophysicsUC San FranciscoThe Davis Lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics is seeking applications for Junior/Assistant/Associate/Full Specialist position. The individual will work with a team of specialists, postdocs, and graduate students seeking to define cellular and molecular mechanisms of neuronal resilience in the mammalian brain. In particular, this individual will explore how mechanisms of neuronal resilience intersect with and modify mechanisms of neurodegenerative and psychiatric disease. This individual will perform experiments using dissociated primary neuronal cultures, quantitative live imaging, and genomic analyses. This is a full-time position, but there is start-date flexibility for the right candidate. It is our intention that this individual will contribute meaningfully to the publication of primary research as an author.Required Qualifications:Specialists appointed at the Junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience.Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree) or a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) with three or more years of research experience.Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization.Specialists appointed at the Full rank must possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience in the relevant specialization.At least two years of experience with the preparation of primary neuronal cultures derived from rodent brain.Experienced with fluorescence light microscopy and quantitative live imaging.Basic programming skills are necessary, enabling modifications to high throughput data acquisition and analysis pipelines.Excellent inter-personal, collaborative skills and be accustomed to working as part of a team.At least two years' experience with molecular biology techniques is required including the generation of novel plasmids for the gene manipulation in primary neurons.Preferred Qualifications:Familiarity with programming and be able to adapt recent AI-based tools and/or machine learning tools for the analysis of quantitative live imaging data.Familiarity with aspects of super-resolution light microscopy is considered a plus.Familiarity with database management and curation of large data sets is also considered a plus.Familiarity with the generation of scientific figures is also considered a plus.See Table 24B for the salary range for this position.
