JOB SUMMARY:
BioCryst is a fast-growing pharmaceutical company with an immediate opening for an experienced Systems Administrator, Lab Systems who can effectively support and manage the company's technology strategy and daily operations of the company's laboratory systems in Birmingham, AL.
The Systems Administrator, Lab Systems primarily is responsible for the overall health and daily performance of the laboratory data acquisition systems, and laboratory information systems (LIS), such as electronic laboratory notebook, stability, and laboratory information management systems (LIMS). Key responsibilities for this role will be to provide daily operational support for the above systems, develop and maintain lab system strategy by closely collaborating with leadership across functional teams, and ensuring that standards exist to allow our scientists to be successful in meeting business objectives.
You will be responsible for a complex enterprise application environment that changes rapidly to meet the evolving requirements of a growing enterprise of applications and client demands. This position is challenged with providing reliable, flexible, and cost-effective solutions. You will gather requirements to understand the needs of each request to accurately assess configuration, value, and total cost of ownership.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Maintain a deep working knowledge of current and future capabilities across laboratory applicationsCollaborate with lab leadership and cross-functional leads and staff to ensure lab activities and support are integrated into planning for laboratory information activities and ensure minimal disruption of operations during LIS maintenance or changesEnsure regulated processes are sufficiently documented to meet compliance needsEnsure lab teams are trained and equipped appropriately to manage LIS workflows and perform troubleshooting activitiesManage and monitor security of the information laboratory systems to ensure proper function and complianceCollaborate with vendor system engineers and company IT staff to develop and execute LIS strategy, ensure proper installation and validation of needed packages and domain upgradesClosely collaborate with operational stakeholders to ensure business needs are met and future projects are properly scoped, resourced and executedMaintain vendor relationship and participate in the evaluation, scoping and implementation of new systems or softwareAssist with providing training, technical, and application assistance to users to better utilize the functions available with the LISAll other job-related duties as it relates to the job function or as delegated by the management teamEXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor's Degree in a technology or science discipline or closely related field with an emphasis of information technology and minimum of 5 years' experience working with laboratory information systems in a drug discovery laboratory setting or equivalent consulting experience in the implementation and management of laboratory information systems. Experience in an electronic notebook platform or LIMS is strongly preferred.Knowledge of operational workflows for the laboratory and how those workflows apply to lab systemsKnowledge of relevant compliance and regulatory requirements related to laboratory information systemsStrong analytical, written, listening and oral communication skillsAbility to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and external vendors, and to utilize social influence and servant leadership to achieve organizational objectivesAbility to succeed in demanding situations through achieving balance between technical and business interests, accomplishing results through third parties, and remaining focused on business objectives while maintaining speed, quality and costs.Experience working in the Life Sciences and/or Healthcare industries is a plus
