Description

The National WWII Museum is currently seeking an IT Database Administrator (DBA). The DBA is responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of the museum's databases and storage. This role will involve the planning and development of the database infrastructure, as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users.

The DBA will lead the data hygiene, strategy, and long-term planning for all databases within the organization. This role is entrusted with developing enterprise reporting systems, data models, and ensuring compliance with all relevant data-related policies like previous IT audits, GDPR, CCPA, PII, and PCI.

Collaboration with colleagues, vendors, and managers will be essential to identify and implement solutions to meet evolving IT needs. The DBA will work to document internal procedures and requires a versatile specialist capable of addressing a wide range of technical challenges while maintaining and enhancing the Museum's IT environment.

Requirements

Ensure the efficient and secure operation of all database systems. Manage database access, develop, and maintain complex databases, and optimize database performance.Work with the IT team to identify and implement strategic improvements to database systems and operations. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data needs and deliver high-quality solutions.Work closely with colleagues to support the museum's technology needs. Provide expert guidance on database management and collaborate on cross functional projects.Collaborate with departments across the museum to understand their reporting and analytics needs. Work to ensure that the museum's systems can deliver safe and accurate information in real time.Work with the IT team to investigate and resolve software and hardware problems for computer users. Assist staff with issues about the Museum's enterprise software and computing platforms in a professional and courteous manner.Provide software installation on user machines and train new hires on the proper use of new hardware and on the network services available.Deploy patches, updates, and upgrades to databases and systems as necessary by utilizing the IT Change Management process.Perform other duties as assigned.Manage SQL Server administration and security, including access management, backup/reporting environments, and capacity monitoring and planning.Oversee Microsoft 365, AWS, and other virtual data management and storage platforms including security, backup, reporting, and retention plans.Maintain data security and privacy in compliance with legal and regulatory standards, most specifically PII, and PCI. Implement and manage comprehensive database security measures.Qualifications

Degree in a computer science-related field and 3-4 years of relevant experience as a DBA in a similarly sized environment or applicable complexity OR relevant certifications with 4-8 years of experience.Proven experience in database administration, with a strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex database concepts to nontechnical stakeholders.Knowledge of database administration policies and procedures with the ability to maintain and secure databases according to recovery time, business requirements, and retention policies.Strong knowledge of scripting (Command line, PowerShell, R, Python, etc.) for automation and system monitoring.Knowledge of MS SQL, VPN, Active Directory, Windows Server Administration, and other applicable technologies.Ability to research problems quickly and resolve issues with strong customer service, time management, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work smoothly and effectively with outside vendors and consultants employed by the Museum in the field of information technology.As needed, be willing to work a flexible schedule that may extend outside of the typical 40-hour work week, including weekends and evenings, to complete tasks and meet deadlines.In addition to offering competitive wages, the Museum's benefits package includes:
