Summary:
This position involves GIS work on projects including map and figure creation, data formatting and editing, data management, data analysis, and quality control. The person in this position will act as the technical GIS lead for a variety of projects. The position will require identifying, determining, and communicating GIS best practices and resources for technical solutions for both internal and external clients. Project responsibilities may include working with and interpreting aerial photos, performing analysis of both raster and vector data, completing database entries and queries, performing database management, working with internet map applications, coordinating GIS work with other software applications (e.g., AutoCAD, Google Earth), and using standard GIS extensions.
Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in GIS, geography, environmental science, or a related GIS field5 years of professional experience related to the job responsibilities described aboveExperience with Esri's ArcGIS 10.x or ArcGIS Pro Suite for map creation, spatial data analysis, and data managementExperience working with public or private data sources (USGS, EPA, NOAA, ESRI)Task management experienceAbility and willingness to work independently or lead small teamsAttention to detail and strong organizational skills; understanding of the importance of quality control and data review processesA flexible working style, self-motivation, and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule to meet project commitmentsCapacity to thrive in fast-paced work situationsConscientiousness concerning the accuracy, appropriateness, and timeliness of resultsStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skillsLegal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the futurePreferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in GIS, geography, or a related GIS fieldProject management experienceFamiliarity with budget, scope, and/or proposal developmentFamiliarity with reviewing GIS data to support environmental impact assessment and permittingExperience developing figures to relay complicated concepts or large sets of data to regulators and the general publicCertificate in Geographic Information SystemsField experience working with Trimble TerraSync or ArcGIS Collector/Field Maps/Survey123 mobile data collection applications (including iPad applications) or other GPS data collection and processing toolsExperience working with Esri's ArcGIS OnlineExperience with ArcSDE Enterprise Geodatabases Scripting/programming skills (JavaScript, Python)Familiarity with AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, gINTExperience sourcing and working with data and imagery from a range of public and private data sources (USGS, EPA, NOAA, ESRI)Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Duluth or Minneapolis, Minnesota, offices.
