Description
JOB PURPOSE
To perform functions assigned in the painting and stripping processes of aircraft and equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands:
Requires standing for extended periods of time. Requires frequent walking, bending, stooping, squatting, reaching above shoulder level and crouching. Requires occasional kneeling, balancing, lifting and carrying weight up to 50 pounds. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Equipment Operated:
Spray painting equipment, power tools, mixing equipment, measuring instruments, brushes, ladders, stands, lifts, ventilators, exhaust units, scaffolding.
Work Location:
Utilized base wide.
Potential Hazards:
Exposure to high intensity noise levels, extreme changes in temperature, materials identified on Safety Data Sheets, working around moving machinery.
Protective Equipment Required:
Goggles, safety glasses, face shields, ear protection, aprons, gloves, respirators, dust masks, safety harnesses, protective clothing.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Functions: Researches technical data and performs aircraft painting functions applying knowledge of surface preparation and painting techniques in accordance with applicable maintenance manuals, FAA regulations and Ascent Aviation policies and procedures. Cleans, sands, and applies chemical solutions to prepare and condition surfaces prior to painting. Mixes and thins paint or other coatings to specified color and consistency according to standard formulas or color charts. Masks and covers surface not to be painted. Sprays specified amount of thickness of primer, protective, decorative, or finish coatings, such as paint, lacquer, sealer, or enamel onto prepared surfaces using spray equipment. Performs maintenance work such as repair and maintenance of company equipment and shop housecleaning. Strips, Sands masks, and insignias, symbols, designs, or other markings on aircraft according to blueprints or specifications, using stencils patterns, measuring instruments, brushes, or spray equipment. Regulates controls on equipment to cure and dry paint or other coatings. Sets up portable ventilators, exhaust units, ladders, and scaffolding prior to painting. Ensures that proper documentation is made on training record for training received, and signed by Lead, Supervisor, or Manager. Operates lifting and moving devices to move materials and equipment and access areas to be painted. Performs duties of the Lead Painter in his/her absence. Marginal Job Functions:
Ensure that all work performed is done in a safe manner. Directs activities to protect employees from harm and maintain safe working conditions. SMS REQUIREMENTS
Will participate in and support safety initiatives, safe work practices and SMS compliance. Will participate in safety activities including the following: immediately reporting hazards, unsafe work practices and accidents/injuries. Will follow all safety rules, FAA regulations, PPE compliance and equipment operation requirements.
Duties not listed within the position description may be required of the employee at the discretion of the department management. Job functions may vary due to irregular working conditions or multiple shift positions.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to organize and plan work adhering to deadlines; attention to detail and mathematical skills; excellent communication skills including the ability to read, write, and understand the English language and to follow verbal and written instruction; ability to interpret and apply technical data relating to position; ability to work with or wither supervision; ability to safely drive and operate a standard shift automotive vehicle and other applicable equipment.
Education/Training:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
One to five years painting experience required.
Certificates/Licenses:
Valid drivers license required
Other: May be required to work at both Marana, AZ and Tucson, AZ locations as business needs dictate
