The School Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of schoolchildren in a school bus.
Reports To:Transportation Supervisor
Schedule (Varies):
6:15am-8:15am, M-F (morning routes)
2:30pm-4:30pm, M-F (afternoon routes)
Additional trips may be scheduled
We are open to hiring candidates who prefer working only morning or only afternoon routes
***GUARANTEED 2 HOURS PAY / ROUTE or TRIP***
Essential Job Functions:1. Drive a school bus in a safe manner on assigned routes2. Maintain order and exercise discipline as necessary, and refer serious violations tothe Transportation Supervisor3. Follow all state and district procedures relating to the safe and timely pickup,transportation, and discharge of passengers; including disabled riders4. Perform required safety and maintenance checks on vehicle5. Assume responsibility for the safety and care of children while in route6. Work cooperatively with administration, staff, parents and the community7. Comply with the absence policies of the District
Requirements of Essential Functions:Constant (66-100%) sitting with reaching and stretching of arms and legs for dooropening, operating controls, shifting gears, clutching and braking, along with alertwatching and listening attentively for conditions affecting the bus or passengers.
Occasional (1-33%) daily opening of hood and climbing on bumper to check fluid levels,along with bending, pushing, pulling and lifting to clean interior of bus; and thestanding, stooping, squatting to load, fasten and unload wheelchairs when necessary inorder to perform essential job functions.
Lifting: 0-10 pounds frequently (34-66%)11-50 pounds occasionally (1-33%)
Marginal Job Functions:1. Cleans bus interior daily and refuels when level drops to half-full2. All other duties assigned which relate to the functions of the job
Job Qualifications:Possess, or be willing to obtain a commercial driver’s license with school bus endorsementAbility to enforce state and district policies concerning safe bus behavior by studentsAbility to work independently in a variety of weather and road conditions, as well as with largegroups of children with varying noise levelsMust have good communication skills (oral and written) in order to work effectively with staff,students, parents and the community
