The Opportunity: Police Officer
The Virginia Port Authority (VPA) is a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The VPA owns and through its private operating subsidiary, Virginia International Terminals, LLC (VIT), operates four general cargo facilities Norfolk International Terminals, Portsmouth Marine Terminal, Newport News Marine Terminal and the Virginia Inland Port in Warren County. The VPA leases Virginia International Gateway and the Port of Richmond.The Virginia Port Authority is seeking Police Officers to perform a variety of law enforcement duties such as responding to calls for service, enforcing traffic and criminal laws; and conducting high visibility patrols on our marine terminals.What You'll Do: ResponsibilitiesPerform security patrols of designated areas on foot or in vehicleWatch for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazardsWarn violators of rule infractionsInvestigate and prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activitiesProvide assistance to customers, employees and visitors in a courteous and professional mannerWho You Are: QualificationsHigh school graduate or equivalentMust be at least 21 years oldMust be able to work any shift assigned in a 24-hour period, 7 days a week, including nights, weekends, and holidays.Applicant must be a Commonwealth of VA certified police officer or successfully complete all requirements of a 17-week basic training course at the Hampton Roads Regional AcademyMust pass a pre-employment physical & drug screeningMust possess a valid driver's licenseYou Should Know: DisclosuresThe Port of Virginia is an Equal Opportunity Employer and therefore does not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, race, religion, disability or national origin.Selected applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment background check which may include any of the following: Academic record and verification of education and/or certifications; Employment history (including references); Criminal history; Driving record; Fingerprinting; drug and alcohol testing, Fit for duty Physical, Other records or information related to the candidate's suitability for the position.Selected applicant must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card).
