The Animal Emergency & Referral Associates in West Caldwell, NJ is hiring a dedicated and enthusiastic Certified Veterinary Technician - Internal Medicine. New graduates are encouraged to apply!Schedule:

Monday - FridayDay shift

Compensation is based on experience and skill level. Starting at $25/ hour for Credentialed Technicians. Credentialed Technicians with experience $28- 32/hr.

Position Overview:The purpose of the position is to provide primary support to the Specialist with diagnostics, treatments, and procedures, while ensuring the best quality of care possible for our patients. The Veterinary Nurse must pay attention to detail and maintain very high standards of cleanliness and care. They must be able to communicate well with doctors and coworkers to ensure overall accuracy and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:To provide support to the Specialist with incoming consultations and procedures, including but not limited to:

Managing flow of appointment schedule and communicating with department liaisonCoordinating diagnostics and procedures with Imaging and Anesthesia servicesProviding nursing skills and support to specialists with treatment or diagnostic requestsPatient assessment, obtain vital data, IVC placement, phlebotomy, intubations, administering injections, radiology, laboratory, basic anesthesia (prep/ assistance/ monitoring), Recover CPRRecord and communicate patient information accurately into patient medical recordsCommunicate patient status, changes in status, patient report information accurately and thoroughly with doctor and ICUMaintain clean, dry, and comfortable surrounding for all patientsSet up and maintain equipment as needed, knowledge of use and care of monitoring/ diagnostic equipmentSafely and effectively restrain patientsPrepare and administer medications and treatments as prescribed by doctorsCollect, prepare, label, and test laboratory specimens as neededProvide assistance with patient euthanasia and aftercare of remains in a timely mannerSuture removals, ear cleaning, and nail trimsProvide basic client education (nutrition, home care, medication administration, post- op care etc)Re- stock and maintain cleanliness of specialty department areasTrain less experienced staff members on policies, procedures, technical skills, medical informationCross- train to assist in other areas of the hospital as needed

Experience & Job Requirements:

Minimum of 2 years experienceAbility to perform all key responsibilities of Technician AssistantKnowledge of safety procedures and acceptable sanitation/sterilization practicesComprehension of commonly used medical terminology and equipmentAbility to calculate accurate dosages and injectionsFamiliarity with CPR and rescue breathingAbility to take direction from a variety of people under various situations and accurately follow instructionsCapability of anticipating needs of Doctors and Nurses and show initiativeAbility to react quickly and appropriately during emergency situations, and remain calm under pressureExcellent communication/people skillsGood grooming and hygieneMust have team-oriented attitude and

promote positive cultureConsiderable tact and diplomacy in dealing with clients affected by a variety of problemsAbility to work with and without direct supervisionCapability to kneel, bend, and to lift various sizes of animals onto treatment tables, without assistance at times (
