VDOT is driven by safety, service to the community, and a commitment to excellence If you are driven by innovation and a passion for leadership with a desire to promote safety and service, we want you to join our team As an Assistant Residency Engineer-Land Use, you will Assist the Residency Engineer to ensure the coordination, integration and management of VDOT resources impacting a residency program. You may serve as the focal point for services and primary contact or liaison for local governments on activities that impact the local geographic region. You will administer VDOT land development activities in assigned geographic region under the advisory authority of the District Land Use Manager regarding land use policies, procedures and guidelines. You will also manage resources and staff allocated to programs to accomplish objectives. Duties and Responsibilities of this position include: Safety Operations Program Coordination and Direction Emergency Operations Communication - maintain strong partnerships with stakeholders and government liaisons. Land Development VDOT is an emergency operation agency. As such, this job is essential to emergency response operations and expected to work in these situations. Report to work when called. Maintain communications with supervisor. Keep abreast of weather forecasts for duty readiness in reporting. Be prepared to operate appropriate equipment in all kinds of weather. Minimum Qualifications • Experience applying civil engineering principles and practices to land development design, transportation construction and maintenance projects. • Skill in developing and managing effective relationships with employees, citizens and public officials. • Experience with land use and development activities to include rezoning and public meetings. • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences. • Valid driver's license. • Experience managing and directing activities related to staffing, budgeting, planning, prioritizing, scheduling, problem solving and training. • Safety shoes required in the field. • Valid VA Professional Engineer's license, or the ability to obtain within 12 months through reciprocity, if currently licensed in another state. • Skill in the use of computers and software programs to include MS Office and engineering design software. Additional Considerations • Progressively responsible engineering and land development experience in a diversified transportation program. • BS in Civil Engineering or related field. • Progressively responsible experience managing a transportation maintenance program.
