An experienced engineer with a strong background in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or a related fieldA specialist in large format additive manufacturing, robotics, construction technology, and/or concrete.Skilled in managing R&D projects, teams, and facilitiesA hands-on leader with experience designing, testing, and implementing new technologiesA collaborative, adaptive problem solver with strong communication skillsMotivated by working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environmentWhat You Will Do:As the Senior R&D Engineer, you will lead Sperra’s New York-based 3D concrete printing R&D facility. You will be responsible for leading facility operations, developing new systems for large-scale additive manufacturing, and spearheading the advancement of 3D printing technologies for renewable energy applications.
Primary responsibilities:
Oversee day-to-day operations of Sperra’s 3D concrete printing facility in Rochester, NYLead the development of new methods, systems, and technologies for large-scale 3D concrete printingManage R&D projects, timelines, and team members to meet research objectivesDesign and prototype equipment and systems for concrete printing processesDevelop testing methods, analyze results, and refine designs to improve manufacturing efficiency and product qualityCollaborate with internal teams and external partners to drive innovationEnsure safety protocols and regulatory standards are met in the facilityMentor and guide junior engineers and internsPrepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for internal stakeholders and funding agenciesContribute to long-term strategic planning for Sperra’s R&D initiativesOther duties as assignedQualifications, Skills, and Experience:B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline5+ years of experience in additive manufacturing, R&D, or related engineering fieldsProven experience managing projects, facilities, or teams in a technical environmentStrong expertise in mechanical design and manufacturing processes, including 3D printingProficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and mechanical analysis toolsExperience with materials science and mechanical testing of concreteStrong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skillsExcellent written and verbal communication abilitiesAbility to work independently and collaboratively, balancing hands-on technical work with management responsibilitiesPreferred:
M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or related disciplineExpertise in large-scale additive manufacturing, automation, or construction technologiesExperience with concrete materials, mix design, or related construction technologiesFamiliarity with finite element analysis tools (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS)What You Will Get:
