Job Title: PT Code Enforcement Officer

Shift: Mon - Wed 8 am - 3 pm

Job Summary : This position is responsible for the enforcement of city codes and ordinances.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSEnforces city zoning, development, sign, landscape, soil erosion and sediment control, solid waste, housing, utility, nuisance, alcoholic beverages, tax, and license ordinances.Notifies individuals of violations in person, by telephone, or by mail as needed.Builds and maintains case files, including photographs, written notices, and case notes.Prepares and presents cases to the City Court Judge; re-inspects property for compliance at the end of the time period specified by the Judge.Serves court papers.Removes illegal signs from rights-of-way.Assist in traffic control at work sites.Accepts, reviews, comments on and approves signs permits and applications.Performs other related duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

Knowledge of all relevant local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines.Knowledge of relevant city codes and ordinances, legal processes, construction and trade codes, and the zoning ordinance.Knowledge of the geography of the city, including streets names and rights-of-way.Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.Skill in investigation techniques.Skill in reading maps, charges, and microfiche.Skill in interpersonal relations.Skill in oral and written communication.SUPERVISORY CONTROLSThe supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINESGuidelines include relevant city codes and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

The work consists of related code enforcement duties. Strict regulations, combined with the unique nature of each case in question, contribute to the complexity of the work.The purpose of this position is to enforce city codes. Successful performance ensures compliance with all relevant codes and ordinances.CONTACTS

Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, property owners, law enforcement personnel, court personnel, and members of the general public.Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and negotiate, defend, or settle matters.PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking.The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITYNone.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent and one year experience in code compliance or enforcement required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.

Must possess a valid driver's license.

Must possess or be able to complete a minimum of 16 hours of the curriculum required for the Georgia Association of Code Enforcement (GACE) Certification as a Code Enforcement Officer, OR be able to obtain the International Code Council (ICC) Certification as either a Property Maintenance/Housing Inspector or a Zoning Inspector, within 18 months from date of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess the Georgia Association of Code Enforcement (GACE) Certification as a Code Enforcement Officer, and have obtained the International Code Council (ICC) Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector Certification, and the Georgia State Soil and Water Conservation Commission- Level 1B Certification in Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control (SESC).

Background screenings are conducted prior to employment.
