Job Responsibilities

With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, C. M. Tucker Nursing Care Center Campus, 2200 Harden Street, Columbia, SC 29203.

There are four (4) vacancies.

As a Certified Nursing Assistant, working under supervision and established practices, you will perform varied and special assignments in giving personal care to the residents.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Preforms and assists residents with personal cleanliness and hygiene (ADL's).Feeds and assists residents with meals, snacks, and supplements.Observes, reports, and documents any changes in residents' condition and/or behavior.Participates in restorative therapies according to care plan and individual needs.Participates in Resident Care Conference.Assists in guiding and helping residents by working with them in groups and individually, by planning and conducting group meetings, encouraging communication, self-esteem and socialization. Conducts selective individual and group activities.Prepares and accompanies residents off the unit to clinics/MD visits and activities.Performs nursing procedures and care per nursing policies. Assists the nurse and doctor with treatments and examinations.20% Supplemental Pay applies to candidates meeting direct-care qualifications.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma or GED. Must hold credentials as a certified nursing assistant.Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.Additional Comments

The selected candidate must have knowledge of assistive nursing procedures, sanitation, personal hygiene, basic health safety practices, and human anatomy. Ability to maintain attention to detail, make accurate technical and physical observations pf patients, accurately communicate and record observations, carefully read and follow directions, work a flexible schedule, and work in a team environment. Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds, be able to stand, walk, reach, pull, push, stoop, bend and climb at least two or three flights of stairs; ability to tolerate noise level and circulate in resident areas for long periods and work with repetitive, unusual resident behaviors. may require basic life skills including CPR, AED use, and ventilators.
