Nursing Supervisor (Med/Surg)Medical/Surgical - Adult Medicine UnitFull TimeJob SummaryInvolved in ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and/or provision of patient care delivery in assigned nursing unit(s) or area(s). Promotes an environment for a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes. Accountable for the quality, safety, patient experience, and cost-effectiveness of patient care. Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care. Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students, and others.

Supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care to adult acute care general medicine patients, solid oncology patients receiving chemotherapy, geriatric patients, and patients at end of life. Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in the acute care adult medicine units and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources on a 24-hour basis. May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager.The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.The salary range for this position is $212,558 - $232,039 (Annual Rate).Department DescriptionThe Adult Medicine Unit is a 34 bed inpatient medical unit that provides care for patients ranging from young adults to the elderly presenting with a wide variety of diagnoses. The unit has the ability to admit patients requiring telemetry and/or continuous pulse oximetry.

Patients found on this unit are often admitted for acute exacerbations of complex chronic conditions with a focus on pulmonary, gastrointestinal, medical-psychological, and endocrine conditions. In addition, this unit administers chemotherapy to treat solid tumor patients admitted to the hospital with an emphasis on treating sarcoma patients.Required Qualifications3-5 years of experience with patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations, and internal policies.Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinicians and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a patient care unit.Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.Strong interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem solving with all levels of management and staff, consultants, and outside agencies.Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner, and to prepare and present a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.Preferred QualificationsKnowledge of business software (Microsoft Office Suite) and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments.Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources matters and performance, and to provide input to decision-making on human resources matters.Master's Degree preferred.ANCC Certification in Palliative Care, Oncology, Gerontology, or Med-Surgical Nursing.License/CertificationRegistered Nurse in the State of CaliforniaCPRBLSONSAbout UCSFAt UCSF Health, our mission of innovative patient care, advanced technology, and pioneering research is redefining what's possible for the patients we serve.
