Job SummaryInvolves the provision of integrated and accessible primary and specialty patient care services in a clinic or center environment. Care is provided by clinicians and assistants who are accountable for addressing a large majority of personal health care needs and developing a sustainable partnership with patients.

Ensures optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and/or provision of patient care delivery in healthcare clinics or centers. Promotes shared decision-making at all levels to ensure a shared voice in practices, exchange of ideas, enhanced communication, and continually improved patient services. Management levels may also be responsible for clinic operations.

Under supervision of the Nursing Manager, guided by policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Staff, the LVN Supervisor works independently in a self-directed manner and demonstrates flexibility in handling multiple priorities. The LVN Supervisor has primary responsibility for the supervision of the Dermatology clinical and admin staff. The LVN Supervisor will be responsible for supervising the operational, human resource, and clinical competency skills of the staff who work in the practice. The LVN Supervisor oversees the clinic flow, ensuring an efficient and well-run operation while paying attention to room utilization, wait times, and provider productivity.

As a working supervisor, the LVN Supervisor will also assist in the delivery of care to patients in clinic and via our APeX patient messaging portal. The LVN Supervisor's clinical work includes assisting with procedures such as mohs surgery, reconciling patient's medications, obtaining prior authorizations, and communicating health care maintenance reminders to assure positive care outcomes. The LVN Supervisor is required to adhere to the Living Pride Standards and Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the Medical Center.

Department DescriptionThe Dermatology practices at UCSF Health are regional centers offering a broad spectrum of diagnostic and treatment services for patients of all ages with cutaneous problems. We provide the most comprehensive skin cancer treatment program in northern California, are the region's only vascular anomalies center, and provide a complete psoriasis treatment program.

The Dermatology Clinic offers a wide range of treatments for patients with skin problems, including but not limited to the following conditions: acne, autoimmune, connective tissue disease, HIV-related skin disorders, mole, atypical nevus, melanoma surveillance, disorders of cornification, pigmented disorders, environmental dermatitis, rosacea, hair, and nail disorders, and human papillomavirous (HPV). The procedures performed in the Dermatology clinics include biopsies, excisions, mohs surgery, and cosmetic procedures.

Managers and supervisors provide cross-coverage for each other when one is out of the office. The LVN Supervisor will contribute to the coverage of other areas within the department as necessary. There is an expectation that the LVN Supervisor will foster a collegial environment in which there is sharing of expertise and best practices with colleagues. Additionally, the LVN Supervisor should be flexible and accept reassignments and additional duties, when necessary, in a positive manner. The LVN Supervisor needs flexibility to cover other UCSF Dermatology locations.

Required Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience in a Dermatology/Dermatology Surgery clinic.

Graduation from an approved LVN program.

Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise patient care support staff. Strong knowledge of practice operations.

In depth knowledge of patient support care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations, and internal policies.

Working knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters.

Detail oriented, with the ability to apply analytical and critical thinking skills to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and apply effective solutions.

Solid interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and problem solving with all levels of management and staff.

Skills in written and verbal communications, with the ability to convey clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner.

Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in clinic/center patient care.

Knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of duties assigned to this position.

Preferred Qualifications

One (1) year of experience as a Supervisor/Lead in a medical practice or equivalent experience.

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.

License/Certification

Current CA Vocational Nurse License.

American Heart Association (AHA) Basic life Support for Healthcare providers (BLS) certification.
