Job Summary:
The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) provides comprehensive anesthesia care (general anesthesia, procedure-related sedation, and regional techniques) in collaboration with the medically-directed anesthesiologist who is directly available during the entire course of anesthesia at all LLUMC and LLUMC affiliated sites. The CRNA determines age-specific (neonatal through later adult) anesthesia plans prior to induction, communicates effectively throughout the anesthetic episode, applies theoretical concepts to clinical practice, and continually expands their knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus on anesthesia care. The CRNA utilizes discretion and independent judgment in the delivery of whole-person care, practices within the CRNA scope of practice, and follows LLUMC policies, protocols, techniques, guidelines, and state and federal regulations. Additionally, they utilize interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism, contributing to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing and an accredited School of Nurse Anesthesia is required. Clinical experience providing anesthesia care as a CRNA or student nurse anesthetist within the last twelve months is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
Able to read, write legibly, and speak in English (Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; and pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to the position; discern temperature variances through touch.
Licensures and Certifications:
Valid California Registered Nurse license required. Valid California Nurse Anesthetist Certificate required. Current certification by National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) required. Valid Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications by the American Heart Association are required.
