Job Description

As a key member of the Strategic Sourcing function, the Strategic Sourcing Global Source to Order Process Excellence, Associate Director role will lead initiatives to strengthen Strategic Sourcing capabilities in areas such as process improvement, policies and governance, technology assessment and implementation, analytics, supplier relationship management, competitive bidding (RFx and e-auctions), and training and development activities.

This role will work cross-functionally with Strategic Sourcing and the broader organization to understand business priorities and needs and define specific initiatives, aligned with industry best practices, to deliver value to the business. In addition, the incumbent is expected to identify and drive the optimization of internal sourcing processes, workflows and interfaces to maximize stakeholder value.

The position is based in our Boston, MA location. The role is global and may require some travel to other Vertex facilities to establish/maintain key business stakeholder relationships as well as to support specific strategic initiatives.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Identify and lead the design, implementation and continuous improvement of global Source to Order processes to enhance value of the Strategic Sourcing and Procure to Pay organization.

Work collaboratively across the organization to identify improvement initiatives and develop project strategies, goals and priorities.

Develop and drive the Buying Channel strategy in collaboration with the functional Strategic Sourcing teams.

Support the development of our Gen AI strategy and roadmap for ongoing value and efficiencies in collaboration with Strategic Sourcing teams and DTE.

Identify and develop tools to streamline and enhance visibility across global Source to Order processes.

Manage supplier governance and performance management program that includes executive business reviews, developing/updating action plans, defining success metrics and monitoring progress against KPIs.

Introduce best practices and better ways of managing work and creating processes that support advancing our strategic priorities.

Build and maintain internal networks to increase communication, knowledge sharing, and engagement to enhance and improve business processes.

Required Education, Experience and Competencies:

Bachelor's degree required.

Typically requires 8+ years of sourcing and procurement experience, ideally several within the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Advanced understanding of sourcing, procurement and AP processes and industry best practices in areas such as procurement technology, risk management, supplier relationship management, stakeholder management and market intelligence.

Advanced ability to influence Sr. Leadership to drive Sourcing’s value; experience as a “Thought Partner” with stakeholders.

Advanced knowledge of source-to-pay processes and systems, including business intelligence and reporting platforms; Ability to teach other colleagues as needed.

Advanced analytical capabilities (data analysis and benchmarking research) as well as PowerPoint skills; expertise working with data analytical/reporting tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, etc.

Advanced understanding and demonstrated use of Continuous Improvement tools (including Pareto Charts, Flow Diagrams, etc.) to drive process improvements.

Advanced project management and team building skills; Able to create detailed project plans, including an understanding of dependencies as well as critical path elements for larger, more complex projects.

Advanced knowledge and demonstration of leading teams in collaborative manner to drive successful outcomes.

Advanced communication and presentation skills, able to clearly articulate opinions in concise and persuasive manner, comfortable speaking in front of groups and/or leading meetings that may include Executive Management personnel.

Advanced capability and experience managing several projects while ensuring deliverables are fully met on-time, including more complex and involved projects.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, ERP systems, P2P systems and related e-Sourcing tools, including business intelligence and reporting platforms.

Advanced analytical capabilities (data analysis and benchmarking research) with proficiency working with data analytical/reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, etc. Able to generate necessary data and reports to support their activities.

Advanced business partnering acumen to develop trusting and influential relationships with stakeholders, understand business objectives and challenges, collaborate on strategic and operational plans and drive business outcomes.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage several projects while ensuring deliverable are fully met on-time, including more complex and involved projects.

Thoughtful and active listener, able to think quickly and effectively articulate points of view.

Serve as mentor to support Sourcing colleagues, temporary workers, and/or college co-ops, as directed by their line manager.

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select2. On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
