ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

Neighborhood Housing Services of Los Angeles County is a Nonprofit community developer and affordable home builder seeking a highly motivated individual and experienced Community Leader to join our team. NHS serves as a catalyst for local residents, business, and government representatives to work together to build stronger neighborhoods, improve the quality of life for low to moderate-income families, and revitalize communities into neighborhoods of choice.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a strategic advisor to the President & CEO and facilitates decision-making by organizing and prioritizing information. The CFO deepens cross-departmental collaboration to enable leadership success and support internal communications. The CFO acts as a point of contact between senior management and other stakeholders and will have day-to-day responsibility for major projects and departments to ensure the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan. The CFO will also work closely with senior management staff to perform executive functions.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

STRATEGIC AND ADMINISTRATIVE LEADERSHIP:

Lead implementation of the strategic plan and develop appropriate metrics of success.

Articulate and implement NHS’s goals and strategies both internally and to the external community.

Work with department heads to leverage all NHS departments, set performance goals and timelines, and monitor and review progress toward those goals.

Manage human resources, finance, administration, and compliance teams.

Create and update dashboards for reviewing key performance indicators.

FINANCIAL AND RISK MANAGEMENT:

Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, benefits, and vendor contracts.

Ensure the maintenance of financial records and recordkeeping systems, including grant/fund accounting, ensuring compliance with all regulations and contractual requirements.

Prepare and present financial statements, reports, and analyses to the CEO and the board of directors.

Identify and mitigate financial risks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Collaborate with the Controller to develop and manage the organization’s budget and manage cash flow, savings, and investments.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

Prepare presentations for both internal and external audiences.

Oversee large, often cross-functional organization-wide projects or initiatives.

Bring together multiple stakeholders and help drive decision-making and execution.

Research, benchmark, analyze data and make recommendations.

Evaluate programs for alignment, efficiency, and effectiveness.

Create systems, processes, and procedures to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.

Requirements:

A Bachelor’s Degree is required, and a Master’s Degree is preferred.

A minimum of 10 years of senior management experience in the non-profit, government, or private sector, preferably with experience with contracts, risk management, Human Resources, affordable housing, and finance.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.

A history of building effective, collaborative working relationships based on mutual trust and confidence, integrity, discretion, good judgment, diplomacy, and confidentiality.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including oral presentations.

Excellent motivational, leadership, and training skills.

Familiarity with issues and needs relating to supportive housing or vulnerable populations.
