Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner- Trauma and Burn Surgery

This combination inpatient and outpatient position with the Division of Trauma and Burn Surgery is a fast-paced role for someone who enjoys critical thinking, an autonomous provider role, working with a multidisciplinary team, and desires to become an expert in their field.

Advanced Practice Provider Role:

Independent management of pediatric burn clinic with a surgeon on-call for discussions and planning as needed.Inpatient care of medically complex polytrauma and burn patients. Requires the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.A central role in trauma bay during trauma activations.Inpatient burn coverage in the PICU, surgical floor, emergency department, and operating room.Administrative time for program and career development.

Current Schedule

(subject to change): Three in-person days per week with remote work for meetings and administrative time.

Preferred Job Requirements:

A minimum of 2 years of full-time pediatric critical care, emergency department or complex care (e.g., solid organ or bone marrow transplant) nursing experience before starting a clinical nursing master's program.Competent in the delivery of high acuity nursing care (e.g., ECMO, CRRT, continuous infusions, mechanical ventilation, 1:1 or 2:1 nursing assignments).Skilled in high-level complex medical communication.Experience in coordination of care of the complex patient.Physician Assistant with comparable clinical experience welcome to apply.

The Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse who practices within their scope of practice as appropriate in their jurisdictional area and in accordance with their organizational Medical Staff Bylaws. The provider is responsible for the management of care to patients including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, and the assessment, implementation, and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care. Provides leadership and consultation with their respective clinical area through participation in division/department initiatives and mentorship of others. Participates in division/departmental and organization-wide initiatives to represent advanced practice and leverage the role of the advanced practice provider.

Minimum Education:Master's or Doctoral degree as Advanced Practice Nurse from an accredited University and eligibility for medical staff credentialing (Required)

Minimum Work Experience:Minimum of 0 years of experience as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge:Strong knowledge of clinical specialty and services. Demonstrates clinical leadership skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required Licenses and Certifications:Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in the state(s) of clinical practice (Required) and CDS and DEA in state(s) of clinical practice. BLS certified. (Required)

Functional Accountabilities:

Clinical:Assess, diagnose, monitor and promote clinical status of each patient utilizing evidence-based practice and medical knowledge.Develop appropriate plan of care.Writes patient care orders, prescribes therapy, and provides necessary home care orders as needed.Identifies significant changes in patient status using physical exam, lab values, diagnostic tests, and patient/family input.Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings.Performs procedures as needed after obtaining appropriate credentialing.Participates in and leads multidisciplinary patient care and planning conferences.Is a clinical resource for patient, parents and the interdisciplinary team.Communicates and escalates clinical/administrative issues as appropriate.Collaborates with nursing, medicine, and other members of the healthcare team to regularly ensure quality patient care.

Administrative:Serves as a clinical preceptor to APRN or PA students.Acts as a clinical resource for staff in patient care issues.Provides formal/informal educational presentations to staff on areas of expertise.Participates in quality improvement work for the department.
