The Division of Hematology-Oncology, Department of Pediatrics, Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San
Antonio is recruiting for a faculty position in the Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology. The candidate must be currently licensed or
eligible for licensing as a physician in Texas. The candidate must be board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.The Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Division's inpatient unit is housed in the beautiful new University Women's and Children's Hospital, a
state-of-the-art facility and a part of University Health. The outpatient unit is located in the adjacent University Hospital Horizon Tower. The
candidate will join our group of nine other pediatric hematologist-oncologists, two child psychologists, two advanced practice nurses, and
currently three fellows in pediatric hematology-oncology. The clinical practice provides care for children with a wide range of cancer
diagnoses as well as hematologic disorders including hemoglobinopathies, thromboses, hemophilia and bleeding disorders. We are the home of the South Texas Hemophilia Treatment Center. We also have an
active program in Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Oncology and active programs in cancer survivorship and cancer predisposition.Opportunities for
scholarly activities are available and encouraged.
Our group is active in the Children's Oncology Group, and is the lead institution for an active
NCI funded Texas Pediatric Minority Community Oncology Research Program. We are also affiliated with the UT Health Greehey Children's Cancer Research Institute
and the NCI-designated Mays Cancer Center.Other Expectations•
Able to independently see new and established patients with hematologic and oncologic disorders and provide high level of care.•
Able to communicate clearly with patients, families, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others.•
Provide oversight and teaching to pediatric residents in inpatient setting.•
Provide oversight and teaching to medical students on inpatient unit and in outpatient clinic.•
Perform procedures including bone marrow aspirations and biopsies, and intrathecal administration of chemotherapy.•
Participate in the 24/7 on-call schedule with other physicians in hematology-oncology.•
